Title: Hitachi 32HXC01U (Vestel) No Text in Menus

I obtained this TV with a backlight problem which I've fixed, only to find out that although the TV works fine, all menus are blank with no text.
The background for the menu comes up with blank text boxes, and you can navigate these boxes with the remote, and I even managed to tune the TV in so the menu's do work, it's just that there's no text in them.
I wonder with the the backlights being off, if the previous owner has been blindly pressing buttons and has altered the menu settings

Is there a way to factory reset the TV? I've tried menu 4725 but the TV just restarts when I do this. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hope you have success, as have just sold an early Vestel 37 where menus were blank. Not bothered myself as all telly is crap.

Fun though as the customer wanted to check, what crap ?

Tend to suspect a new SSB or update might sort - Bit dubious though, as Vestel updates are vastly complex - Chris.

Hi Chris, your forum name would be "neep" in my part of the country lol.
Yeah managed to fix with a firmware update for the 17MB82 so all is good now. TV is off to a new home tomorrow (with backlight set to medium)  :67:

Its the flash firmware corruption in the spi flash ic. I had a similar issue with another of these Vestel TVs and managed to find a flash dump for the same model.
 I compared the data and you could see a few bits of data were incorrect (that is besides the tuning data which is normally in the rear of the dump).
 I used the bigbincompare programme to see the differences of the binary data.

Try downloading a later version of Winrar as I have just tried it and extracted without any issues I have winrar 5.4 32bit I will try it on a different pc later on. When installing winrar I only allow rar files to be extracted with it otherwise can cause some issues with other files it associates with the programme.
