Samsung PS59D6900DK - Control problem

(1/2) > >>

Turnip:
Hi folks,

Got one in where at plug in, Samsung graphic shows on the screen, then HDMI 3 appears in the top corner - Set then cuts to S/by, then Graphic and HDMI 3 again, then repeats continuously.

Neither RCU nor set controls have any effect. First thought it could be Sammy tact switches but it doesn't have any, being touch control on the lower front panel.

Any thoughts ? -  Thanks - Chris.

With hot air reflow BGA procesor

Hi Jordan and thanks,

Suspect Bruce would say 'Shove it in the oven at 200C for ten minutes'

Note most boards for this model are quite cheap on Ebay - Haven't yet checked SSB availability, but suspect they're Hen's Teeth - Chris.

Hi Chris,

Yep, sounds like a main board fault. Samsungs should have a test pattern generator on the control (logic) board which will confirm if it is the main board. You need to disconnect the LVDS lead from main to control, disconnect psu to main at the main and short the PSU-ON pin to ground (return). Apply power and short out the generator pins on the control board. If you get test patterns, then the TV, apart from the main, is all operational.

Haven't had much luck cooking Sam boards, mostly seems to work with LG. Must be something to do with LGs soldering techniques for ball joints.
Anyway, election's on and a few more terrorists gone to wherever they go.                                Bruce

Thanks Bruce,

Note Jordan suggests 'Reflow' rather than 'Re-Ball' so mayhap a higher oven temperature, but less than my last LG one where all the Black bits fell off.

Also wonder if there are folks about who deal with the problem as there are dozens on Ebay who specialise in replacing AS15-X on T/Cons.

As to your last, recall Oscar Wilde suggested dubious folks should be sent to Australia - Chris.
