Hi Astracat,

Got my C&G with wind-up gramophones, where spring repair was life threatening. We just wound 'em out, and when we got to the middle where the break was - We heated the spring and sorted it with 'Woolworth' drills in a hand-brace as all available.

After a week or two, we broke through, and sorted suitable nails, then hammered them flat.

Winding back in was an issue, as any slip detached one's head

Happy to say, my elder brother at 84 seems to have survived. Was dubious myself, but elder brothers advice shouldn't be ignored.

Must admit however that he said that a bumble bee wouldn't sting if grasped

Bugger did - Became dubious at seven - Chris.

Hi Astracat,

Worked on Philips G500 series at the time, where we shoved a Woolworth screwdriver in the HT interlock and tried keep our parts away from those PD500 X-rays. Bit daft maybe, as was mostly the LOPT overwind gone S/C.

Loved most of the films, especially 'The Home Made Car' and 'Atlantic Parks' as featured a tasty gal. The first is now available in perfect quality on a composite DVD of BP stuff of the period. 'Atlantic Parks' only available on YouTube in crap quality, where its all colour and no luminance. Recall it was a 'Film Board of Canada' film, but they don't seem to have it listed - Sad.

Later a bench tech for another firm who sensibly didn't do Philips, Pye or the hybrid 'Burning Bush' which seemed to have shop burning issues if left on overnight - Used to light my fags using a Ferguson 'jelly pot' LOPT as 7.5Kv was just the biz to get one going. Memorable fun when I tried re-light one after lunch, forgetting it might be a bit damp - Chris.

Said BP disc also has 'Sky-hook' and 'Proserpina' (Italian with sub-titles) Sadly when I copied it, the sub-titles vanished for some reason, but seem to remember how it went.
