Hi Sparky, and thanks,

Was about to paddle from Norfolk with just 3 caps, some nifty bottles and a bit of wire,

Well, for that sort'a cash even a tight Brummie might venture - suggest Liverpool rather than Yarmouth, as from here, you have to get around the corner - either end - Chris.

Same problem here!! but mine is a Samsung ps42Q96HDX Replaced all the capicitors as suggested, did not work, reset the EPROM chip, worked fine for 30 min or so and then switched off, and started clicking again. Turned the TV off at the mains for 10 min, switched on works for couple of mins and then starts clicking again. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

try replacing eeprom chip

Ohm Supplies:

How to find pin 1 on an ic:, if you can’t see the dot for pin1 either on the ic or the board (on the Samsung 40” lcd there’s an arrow) in 100% of cases if you look at the writing and can read it then pin 1 will be bottom left therefor pin 5 and 6 will be the top right ones.
A ps42q96hd is a Plasma, it isn’t known for having cap problems, it is however fantastically common to have either dd.’s on the psu (casing clicking) or for a fet or both fets to blow (causing no clicking).

Shorting an eeprom won’t always work and if it does may leave some odd faults on the set, if it does bring it out of stand by then it was the cause of the problem. If you’re unsure if it was corrupt, go into service mode and check the time the panel has run, if it is a low number then there’s been a problem in the past that’s caused the corruption
Regards
Andy
