LG 37LC55. Low brightness

Hi,
I have one of these sets in with low brightness. The brightness can be adjusted, but still the set does not display a bright picture. I have also noticed that a ghost of the menu can be seen on screen after the menu has been switch off, don't know if the 2 faults are linked. Any help gratefully recieved.
