A couple of questions: How do you do a reset on these sets/box?
I have one which has no picture only a screen full of coured noise in vertical bands/lines.
Can any one help with this?

Buy the way you can get these to run without the box by changing the normal/auto switch on the power supply.

sounds like the lower y drive pcb is faulty, try removing, you should get half a picture, if so replace along with the y sus pcb, as for running with out the media box, dont think you can on this model, some similar sets had a button which gives a test pattern if box not connected,

but like daz said, dont think its to do with the tuner box, fault would proberly be more to do with a board inside
