Hitachi plasma crackle?

hi i have been given a broken Hitachi 55pd9700 was told when you go to power the tv on it clicks then the green led comes on and you hear a crackling sound then it switches off goes back to red led.

on power up again no crackling  just a
sound from the speakers it is red light on standby
the goes green when on the goes off again

anyone have any ideas what it might be??
