Sony KDL-40W2000- 4 Flashes

Hi All,

I’ve picked up a Sony KDL-40W2000 for repair.
On switch on there is audio and menu just for a second or two, then the set cuts out and the red LED flashes four times then stops for two secs then repeats.
I’ve checked supply voltages they seem ok.
I understand the inverter board can cause this prob. The 18v on the board is there.
I’ve checked the transformers on the inverter they seem ok.
Has anyone any ideas.
Thanks
Pan

Hi Pan,

Know nothing yet about the set but 18 volts seems an odd figure and rather low to do much in a 40 inch unless it's a LED that doesn't use transformers - Curious - Chris.

Got one with same fault turned out to be the connecter dry joints on the inverter cn1 pin13

in the service manual says led error 04 ...4 flashes.... panel fault so I'd guess backlights or invertor if you want the manual give me an e mail addy and i'll send it

jimca007:
further to last post I remembered an old sony technical bulletin identifies invertor faults to be most common case of 4 led flash failures.
"Plug in unit and monitor the 18v line from the psu to the inverter as the set is powered on . If 18v is present the psu is likely to be ok. Then verify if the picture is displayed even just for a flash. Pay attension to light dispersal on screen is it only lit on the bottom or universally even ?. The set once in protect mode will take a min of 3 mins to re-set and it cannot be turned on again before this has elapsed to re test. Both 32 and 40 inch models will shut down and enter protect mode when inverter failure is detected. It is suggested the inverter be replaced in the first instance however if the fault persists the panel complete with backlights must be replaced also "

It goes on in that vain but basically says if any inverter fuses are O/C then replace the inverter ( costly personally I'd have a go at repairing it ! ) If this don't fix it the panel backlights are liable to be the cause and a new panel should be fitted
