Samsung LE40R86BD on/off cycle after 20 mins
« on: February 02, 2011,05:09:49 »
Hi, I have a 2,5 year old Samsung LE40R86BD and it has started the infamous relay clicking. However, I have confirmed that the problem is NOT in the caps or in the eeprom.

The TV stays on for 20-30mins after I have let it to cool down and then the clicking starts. If I disconnect the power and wait till the clicking fades away and plug the TV again, the clicking starts again.

So, I'm guessing that the problem is a cold joint or a faulty transformer. I have tested the transformer by heating it with a hair dryer and this produces the fault. Any advice on how I can definitely confirm that it's the transformer or is the hair dryer test enough? And is the transformer a part that I can easily find and order?

The part number of the power board is BN44-00167A.

Thanks!

Edit: The transformer part number is TMS92267CT

Hi Sparky,

But he said it was not either of those - perhaps the on/off switch, or the tube.

Go for it Dave - off for another pint me'self - Chris.

I'm assuming that the fault cannot be anywhere but in the PSU, since warming the transformer with hair dryer causes the PSU to go to on/off switching mode (ie. fault detected -> power OFF -> fault not detected -> power ON -> fault detected, and so on...)

I found a compatible PSU for £45 + shipping. I think I'll play safe and order it, since the TMS92267CT transformer would cost £6 and I'm not 100% sure about it. But maybe I should check first if Samsung would cover this fault, even if the warranty has expired 6 months ago.

Here's a schematic if that helps.
