hi, everyone! this set is stuck in atandby with blue led on, and yes its a vestel psu! type 17IPS02-2, i have changed all Electrolytic capacitors apart from mains cap and still same result though heating up psu does eventually bring it out of standby and will work ok even if switched of and on untill cold then it reverts back to standby problem! sorry to bring you into the new year with a vestel problem!

Just love those Vestel IPS -they're all triffic. Had a problem where backlight cut, got a new spare board from Daz then discovered the tubes suspect from cold so did the 1K duff tube sensing mod. In my case set didn't cut to s/by but if you want a nice newish 17IPS02-2 I have one.

hi, im starting to think it might be data corruption from eprom, just been reading this thread/ Goodmans GML22W29HDVF / Vestel 17mb29 main board, sounds very much like the problem i have with this set, it seems common! i have tried the fix they mentioned by going to service menu and doing a reset but problem remains. so now im not sure if a new psu will fix things, any suugestions?

Checked the thread and our C/John is quite the biz, he gets awful technical - bit like our Brian, whereas I just slot in recycled panels and dream of wicked meals at the 'Roundabout Full Fat Cafe'.

sounds good! i wont be droping any panels in this set, have Consigned it to the tv scrap yard[ebay!] well the screen anyway! dvd player was also shot ,spindle drive chip was u/s, was getting very hot, you could have fried some of those meals you were dreaming about on it!

Was wondering if your set had the fault where it would start when U696 on the 17MB29 mainboard was warmed with a hairdrier. If so read my updated thread on the Goodmans set. Would appreciate your input if your fault symptom is the same.

hi, john, set did respond to heating, from cold would not start at all, set came on after heating psu panel but was intermittent, not the same result when heating failing caps, after reading goodmans thread which led me to the eprom, so tried a reset with no joy then some heat with much the same result.

Think the fault on your set was different to mine. u696 is on the edge of the main board and some distance from the psu, although it can be tricky to localise the heat from the hairdrier on to one area only.

Still got this near pristine Power/Inverter board - you could buy it then sell on to the next Vestel chap for a decent profit already - 'Gotta pick a pocket or two' - Chris.

PS - My main board differed from CJ's -well, a different set - but still total crap.

Thanks for the 1k resistor tip had one today stuck in standby, fitted the 1k resistor to the invertor chip and it came up nicely ! One to remember

The 1k resistor mod is a possible cure for a lazy ccfl backlight tube. If this was your problem you would have the symptom of sound ok but no backlight illumination. Switching the set in and out of standby would not be an issue.
Seem to recall that the documentation about the standby switching voltage was incorrect in some way but can't remember the exact details.
Think your set is exhibiting a fault different to mine because it appears that you are able to bring it out of standby. From the description it sounds like a corrupted eeprom IC stuck in some sort of test mode. Try holding the menu button on the remote control for a few seconds while the screen is flashing. Sometimes it can act as a reset.
Checked on the circuit for c536. Assuming the numbers are the same on this version c536 also decouples the standby 3.3 volt line - just a bit further downstream. So upgrading it would have the same effect as either of the capacitor mods you have tried.
