Circuit symbol

With reference to the Hitachi Service Manual I've been using can anyone tell me what S denotes? It's shown on the circuit track as two small interconnected open circles, marked S001 etc., just looks like a link but I'm sure I've seen on the board where there are two unbridged pads at a particular S*** ...?

Probably spark gap if it's around the power supply or other high voltage area.
