Repairing a PSM210-417AR - P1014AP06 Datasheet
« on: August 06, 2011,22:26:12 »
Hi Folks,
This is my first post to this forum. In the last half hour, I've found more info on repairing my Phihong powersupply than Googling for the past two days!

I found the gent's post who replaced his failed PSU with three separate units - that is probably what I'm going to do. However, since I'm the type who likes a challenge, I'm trying to fix my PSM210-417A-R supply.

It appears the standby 5V line is only supplying about 4.5V. When I press the power sw, the PS-ON line from the main logic board back to the PSU only goes to about 1.2v. I've checked the mosfets/semiconductors and they appear to be good. I've replaced the main caps but still no-go.

I did a search for the P1014AP06 switcher IC used in the standby supply and found the attached datasheet.
Here's the interesting note - page 21 of the datasheet has the exact schematic used by the standby 5v supply on the PSM210-417A-R (the component values are slightly different).

Hopefully, others will be able to make good use of the info.

One other item I'm confused about: I read a few times on this forum that when the aux 5v supply goes bad, it takes out the main part of the supply as well. How? The aux 5v supply is not connected to the main supply. It has its own rectifiers. The only interconnection is through the under/over voltage sense circuit (IC604) and of course, the main fuse and RFI filters, but that's it.

"bigbop"

There is a datasheet for the A-R board but the cct shown for the ic is not "exact", only an example.

There are 2 reapir kits available in Europe for this board, the "full" kit contains:

•F101
•IC301
•D306
•D307
•PC2
•SHR401
•IC101
•Q102
•ZD104
•IC302
•IC102
•IC501
•Q307
•Q3

Be carfull reading about the board on other forums, this "A-R" board is often mistaken for the none-A-R board, we've even seen the wrong kits fitted in the boards. check the parts from the kit and, as you've already found out, don't let the Lacquer that they've covered the board in (for some reason) confuse your meter readings

Yes, I've been scanning many a website looking for info on the "A-R" board and yes, I first looked at the non-AR kits at OHM and saw the notice about the AR version repair kits.
I looked at the aux 5V circuit on the PCB and I am convinced it is not tied in to anything else except the over/under voltage prot cckt so I will be yanking out the primary parts of the Aux 5V switcher and sticking in a 1A 5V cellphone charger (de-shelled) and see if that enables the rest of the powersupply to startup.

Cheers!
