old age doesnt come on its own and i'm sorry to say being in my 60's i'm in the same boat i bought a wee magnifying glass with a built in light and its marvelous for reading the chip numbers it was in one of these pound shops and worth every penny

labrat:
thanks wouldnt be worried about old age being tied into eyesight but im not 30 yet :)

took the advice got a little magnafier combined with a inspection light thingy, amazing thing is now i can read them better ive found a chip cs24c02m0

now i feel a right wally, will try shorting them later

jimca007:
sounds a bit nearer the mark good luck

labrat:
tried it but no luck i tihnk im going to have to call it a day with this telly

might be wrong with it being eprom it just seems likely with the coincidences

there was actually two chips starting with 24c one under the usb update port and one nearer the rhs of the board

if it wasnt for the fact that some of the control buttons have changed functions i would have said lvds/lcd so im not even sure if i can sell those seperate might just bang it on ebay as a whole unit

oh and easytouch never replyed to emails suprise suprise

jimca007:
the one near the usb port's likely to be the firmware update chip the other the system chip have you checked the power supply for dodgy caps if its getting ripple or low voltages due to bad caps it could give you funny effects
