Hi guys, another newbie with a problem, sorry! :sign0144:
My brother just gave me this tv with a fault with the picture, the tv switches on ok but the picture looks like the contrast is turned up full and everything is flaring also there appears to be very thin vertical lines on the screen.
The tv hasn't been bumped or damaged in any way, in fact it looks like new though 2 years old.
Thought it wise to ask here first before tearing the back off and fiddling about, pity its not a pc i'd have it in bits by now. :lamo:
I'll attach a couple of screen pics to help try and diagnose this fault.

actually had this very same fault not long ago turned out to be the eeprom got corrupted by a power spike shorted over pins 5 and 6 of the eeprom to reset and the pic came up lovely ...I may have just been lucky that time but its worth a punt !

Hi Jim, thanks for the advice but just to be sure you mean short pin 5 onto pin 6 of the eeprom chip?
Is this done in situ or do I need to desolder it first, sounds very similar to resetting the bios in a pc.
Hope you don't mind these questions cos i'm never 100% certain with tv's, pc's are so simple in comparison. :wink1:
I've managed to get the service manual for this tv and it looks like the eeprom is IC105, trying to cover all angles before i blow it up! :03:

jimca007:
unplug from supply. solder two longish wires onto pins 5 and 6 of the eeprom ( this is generally a 8 pin chip with a number beginning 24c.... ). Refit board . short together wires and turn on set although it wont actually turn on it'll kinda burp and revert to standby. disconnect power, remove wires , rebuild , turn on as normal.

Cheers m8, i'll give this a go tomorrow and post the result.
Had a good result today by fixing my Samsung tv, so i'll have to make sure i've got steady hands tomorrow.

BTW i tried to upload the service manual for the LG as a pdf file and was informed that its the wrong format for upload? :dubbio:
