Alba LCD32ADVD Vestel Boards

(1/3) > >>

low.flying.pigs:
Hello, can anyone assist with an Alba LCD32ADVD. It has:

Vestel 17PW26-4 V.1 Power Supply
Vestel 17MB45M-2 Main Board / 17MB45M-3 possibly

Problem:
No response to remote. Remote seems OK. TV can be brought out of standby by pressing standby on row of 4 buttons on side of set. From there volume can be controlled, and channel up / down, and source selected. TV shows images OK, sound is OK. SCART and RF in working, Freeview working. DVD is OK and will play up to menu, but there is no way to get beyond that without the remote.

Observation:
White light in centre below screen shown when set is in stanby. Goes out when standby pressed on side buttons. When on, no light at all is shown. Without the sets manual, don't know if that is normal or not.

Actions so far:

Set from a smoking household so:

Remote dismantled. PCB, rubbers and IR emmiter cleaned thoroughly. New batteries fitted, no change. IR emmiter can be seen working. Remote presumed OK. No other set to test it on, or known working remote to test with this problematic set.

TV dismantled, IR receiver, lens and case cleaned thoroughly, no change, even with remote held directly in front of sensor.

Internal interconnections between boards cleaned, no change.

PSU voltages measure OK as far as I can tell. PSU replaced anyway with supposedly good unit from a smashed screen set, no change.

Internet seach, nothing.

What next?
I am unable to find any way to access the menu via the buttons on the side to perform a factory reset.
I can find no user manual for the set anywhere. Is there a way?

I believe this may be a main board issue, but before seeking a replacement, is there anything further that can be done?

I would try a reset of the EEPROM, but I am reluctant in case the remaining functionality is lost. Does anyone think an EEPROM reset would help?

The client has the set in use at the moment with a loan Freeview box, can barely afford repair let alone a replacement or new set.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks,

LEEDASH:
These alba set's are a nightmare, ive got the lcd32880 which would switch on show a bit of a prog then switch off, very anoying, didnt have time to get in to any menu, then purchased a set with a cracked screen, which was the same model number but had slightly different scarts/hdmi port, swapped the boards and acted the same or even worse.
If you find a soloution please post up,the alba's cant be that hard to fix surely ?

low.flying.pigs:
Before my involvement with this particular Alba set, I understand it had already been 'looked at' by a another 'engineer'. Apart from literally 'looking at' the set from across the living room, he did nothing other than declare he could not fix it because 'it is an Alba', and promply then demand the call out fee.

The client stated another 'engineer' had the same apparent 'anti Alba' attitude, to the extent he rudely hung up, twice!

In my view, such an extreme 'anti Alba' attitude is unwarranted and ultimately short sighted. The client stated he would not be using either engineer again in the future.

Many sets are Vestel based, and the particular Vestel boards in the Alba LCD32ADVD are used in a various set from various manufacturers / brands. For example, the power supply is fairly widely used and I understand JVC and Toshiba have used the same main board in some of thier 32 inch sets. In that context, it seems unfair to condemn Alba as a brand. This particular set is proving difficult as I cannot do all that I ordinarily would as explained in the first post, however, other Alba sets with other faults have been fixed quite easily.

If anyone can offer any knowledge that may help to resolve the non responsive remote symptoms, it would be most appreciated.

If I should come across a solution for this particular set, I will post it here.

Good luck with your set,

fix2003:
have you replaced the two small caps by the inverter transformer 3pf 3kv. common problem in these sets
C230 C231  can use 5pf 3kv disc ceramics  if you can not find 3pf as some sets have the 5pf
