kinda sounds more software than hardware, the white screen and unresponsive buttons would suggest incomplete start routine and the software "hanging" ie getting stuck and going no further. Could be due to low voltage from the psu the wee 1000uf caps on the output of the psu were really prone to going down, pop a couple new ones in they're cheap enough to take a punt ! As a wee side issue the technika universal remote, its a little black one sold in most Tesco stores,  work these a treat first code in the list popped in and everything works !

Not to presume to pop your bubble in  any way sparky but my retirement was kinda forced and unexpected and took quite a bit of getting used to especially getting my brain to communicate with my mouth and say no when the phone went promising pounds !

thanks jim i'll test the caps, it's a shame you were forced into retirement and it sounds like sparky can't wait, i do hope you and sparky keep looking at whats still going on and can give  advise and also lets not forget tv tony

unfortunately as your probably all too well aware in this line every days a school day and you kinda learn on your feet in short shift before you know it your skill set is obsolete although it doesnt really matter if your no longer using them anyway, standing mid way up the staircase idly wondering am I going to the loo or have I just been !

sparky:
