Atec 42" PSU Fault

(1/2) > >>

sabre504:
Hi all this Atec 42” came in stuck in standby.
Shows red light on standby but when you press power button it goes green then goes orange
But the screen shows no sign of life at all .
Power supply is an IPLV-42
No 24v at the inverter plugs (not shorting to ground )
No 33v on psu to main board (not shorting to ground )
12v and 5v on the main to psu all shorting to ground
Q101 short not yet changed
The short appears to go all the way back to the schottky diodes for the 12v and 5v rails
Any ideas as to what could cause a complete short like this I don’t want to just change parts
and blow them
Thanks in advance

hi,try esr meter on the caps secondary side

also check q101 and its associated 12v zener, they will probably have failed

Hi,

I agree with both suggestions above.
You're lucky, I've had one of these in recently that someone had 'attempted' - a right mess
Thankfully after quite a bit of cleaning and a few track repairs, it was the typical Q101 and zener

sabre504:
Hi guy's
thanks for the pointers and sorry not updated earlier but had a bit of an accident .
Whilst making space in my work area i moved a plasma screen on the bench turned around to move the atec psu then crash over went the plasma.
This in itself is not of great concern (it had a damaged screen anyway) but it landed on my ESR meter   :41:

This is now useless and in temper shut and locked the door on workshop.

Now i have calmed down and ordered a new one ,i am going to pull the caps ,Q101 which i know is shorted and the zener and change them all will update when done
Cheers Paul
