Hi there,

Had one in today with a burn-up, where mains fuse had popped. Noticed Ebay has a repair kit, cheapish, thought to go for it, and attach parts file.

Thought try buy parts individually - But kit is cheaper for one off's - Chris.

I have had no success with burnt up boards either!

Be aware that there are 2 types of this PSU, one has 3.3V output and one has 5V output, if the wrong one is fitten the main processor can be damaged.

Thought I was on an easy one, as nothing yet listed on Quuq 17PW25-4  - Problem wise for some reasons, although seems some folks have had troubles but poss not bothered to mention.

Will fit those Irish repair bits, and see how it goes.

Note lots of panels on Fleabay, even new ones - bit expensive though.

Burn-up seems to be in the PFC area, so hopeful outputs might be OK - Chris.

Was perhaps lucky - fitted the kit and the set fired up. Feel that a safety resistor might have been fitted in the +ve feed and might pop before those two R33, also maybe the 3.15A mains fuse is a bit hefty considering the main cap is very small.

Hi Folks,

PS - Next day, backlight flickered then went off, sound continuing. Tried again and the backlight flickered continually but at least the P/S didn't pop.

Guess you chaps were right - Emos currently has no stock, but there are lots of new ones on Fleabay.

Note that Keith suggested there were two types ie. 3.3v or 5.0v to the proc.

Mine is a 250111 V1 if it means anything - Any thoughts ? - Chris.

It's a Toshiba 32BV702B.

Matter of interest, when set initially turned on - All totally well.

After a while backlight flickers, and if left on, set cuts to S/by.

Curious to know folks experiences, as there might be something common that might be sorted - Yet to try with the 'Freezer/Hairdryer' option - Thanks Dave - Chris.

If you repair the board that cones with the set then you know you wont have the wrong version fitted. There are differences in the circuit. There have been some gray spares coming into the market recently which doesn't help the repair. Someone sent a datasheet with the working voltages on which helped a lot

There are basically 2 versions with the SSB requiring 5V or 3V3.

The 3v3 version has D832 fitted on the print side SMD device, also C828 and L805 on the component side.

The yellow label on the board will have a number starting 23xxxxxx or 20xxxxxx, so far from my experiences 23xxxxxx is 5V and 20xxxxxx is 3v3, although this may not be 100%. The components is the obvious way to check.

There may be other differences for screen size but have not noticed any problems with boards yet.

These boards are very cheap if you are trade, so unless it has an obvious and easy fault, they are not worth repairing.

Eventually went to Wiltsgrove, a new board was £27 + Vat - post free, as had bought other bits so postage didn't apply.

Noted that SJS gives some useful information as to compatible boards that helped me sort my Wiltsgrove order,

'Wiltsgrove' don't give any information - ever - Had words with them several times, but they remain pretty close - giving nothing away that would help folks trying mend stuff.

Hi folks, and again thanks.

Gathered from a Quuq Hero that the 22/450 'Main cap' often causes the PFC/Inverter side to pop, and is best changed whenever one gets one in to mend whether it looks distressed or not.

Found some in China at £3.38 for six inc. post  - Wiltsgrove - 65p each plus VAT and Post.

Was amused to note the cost of genuine Panasonic 22/450 caps on Fleabay - Chris.

It's not worth fitting cheap capacitors from ebay or china, they won't last long! you can get genuine Panasonic caps from CPC (CA04997) for £6.36 for pack of 5, personally never had this item C821, fail.

Can't say I've had a duff C821 myself, just a suggestion from a Quuq hero who seems to have some considerable experience of faulty 25-4 boards, and feels that the cap can be/is suspect with an PFC/Inverter supply Pop.

As to caps generally, tend to use whatever is cheapish first, then if any problem, quickly source something better. Wiltsgove low ESR caps pretty good - never yet a failure.

Customers naturally get peeved with premature failure, so try keep on the ball - Chris.
