Sony KDL-26S5500 Tuning problem

Hi Dave,

Also had problems with ProfiloTelra sets (the ones with the horrible dribbling P/S) and more recently a UMC LCD22-108, where on changing the DVB panel several times, the set would lock up and refuse to change channel 'till it thought about it for a while, indicating signal strength of either zero or 90% regardless of reception. Tend to suspect automatic updates a bit suspect.

Had lots of fun manually updating Vestel Digihome PVR, where update seemed the biz but they still didn't work.

Still got a PVR160 on the books for a visit - seems it deletes recordings, and now pauses on playback. Suspect HD, but still have a heap of 'em about from old XP computers - Chris.

Yep, sure is some nice power supplies around looking like..... robots vomit, pretty sure they're designed for the capacitors to fail, assembled in the back Streets of a far Eastern country no doubt.

With the OP type of fault, I thought I'd sorted the 'Flipips' out, you just gotta turn the set off and then try, can't recall the model but sure was a cracking picture, a Philips KDL something, seeing it was a elderly couple I fitted a preview box that made them happy.

Talking about tuning problems I get a chap bringing various telly's from his boat with either tuning problems or CPU duff, he comes too frequent for my liking, pretty sure it's the generator charger causing the problem, he never does as he's told to disconnect em'... the spikes I reckon, the rise time etc. The latest one he brought is a Asda 12V dc Poloroid 12" LCD, no CPU clock, dead as a dum dum except for a reset pulse and the 5V supply, gonna tell him to take it back.... guess he'll go and get another 'El Cheapo'.

An idea might be to tell him take it back every 11 months with varying complaints  :96:

Hi Dave,

Had some fun yesterday with a 'Panasonic Microwave Combi' where a cust from America brought socket conversion gizmo's for his kid's stuff that caused a power pop and killed the microwave inverter dead, as it was on at the time.

Never had the trouble with transformers - trying sort something on the Flea - Chris.

Admit - Has little to do with Sony probs but could stretch the Quuq mind - usefully.

Don't like Panny microwaves, the two I came across had a SMD clock.control supply, both of em' ruined because the SMD chopper chip, disintegrated and took half the print with it damaging other components, they ended up being scrapped because of the price of a replacement panel, don't get me wrong they're mighty fine when they're working, just that when anything goes wrong or a voltage spike pops up causing the switching to falter.

Would be OK if the chip didn't make such a mess, an area of about three inches black as night with peeled and melted tracks, only the pins were left.

Ebay folks suggest Y4FFZZ000BP is the biz - Looks the same but numbers a bit different. Think take the chance, as one lives only the once - Chris
