Panasonic NN-CT8905 Error code H97

Hi folks,

Got and fitted a new identical inverter board to find on powering up, nothing much happened apart from a little rattling noise, and error code H97 was displayed.

I always use a moving iron ammeter with microwaves to see how things are going and current indicated was negligible.

Gather H97 usually indicates that the magnetron filament is O/C or there are loose wires about. Checked and filament is OK with no loose wires.

Guess Magnetron may be duff and caused the first inverter to pop - Any thoughts ? - Thanks - Chris.

Hi Chris,

This bulletin may help. Otherwise error can be cleared as follows:

Plug in the oven.
Press Stop/Reset once.
Open the door.
Press Start pad for 2+ sec until the buzzer beeps.
Press Stop/Reset 3 times.....Display will show total usage time of magnetron.
Press Micro pad once....Will show how many times H97 & H98 have occurred.
Press Start pad for 2+ sec until the buzzer beeps to reset.
Reset is complete when 1 beep is heard and the display says "End"
Press Stop/Reset to Exit.

Wouldn't try committing that to memory, or you'll burst a fufu valve.

Hi Jordan,

Found that one - Made me suspect the magnetron the problem. Wonder if there are any differences between magnetrons with Inverter stuff and old transformer jobbies, as usually used any one from recycling sites that fits in, and never yet a problem, even after extraneous lugs were sawn off to get 'em to fit.

Natch' seems a bit Panasonic, where error codes are the biz.

Glad it wasn't a Sharp, where codes can be even worse.

Years ago, there was just a fuse, where simple thought could sort the problem, with transformers that did the biz with no complaint - Guess it's progress - Thanks again - Chris

FYI Chris,

These m/waves lock up if they experience 3 faulty starts. Hence the need for a reset.

An electro at the top of the control panel can cause erratic behaviour.

Also the lower inside door switch is notorious for going open.

Workplace Health & Safety rules state "No work will be attempted on microwave ovens whilke under the influence of Turnip wine", so stay safe.

Thanks for the 'heads-up' info, will check it out.

Admit I have had several in before, and always persuaded custs to dump 'em in favour of a 'Trannie and two knob' version from the local supermarkets for £25.00 as suspect a microwave should essentially be a thing to De-freeze stuff, as we all have a cooker that does the job quite nicely with old fashioned 'infra red' and a fan to circulate heat. admittedly IR stuff needs some regular cleaning, that most Microwaves need but don't get.

Made the error of starting on the job first thing last Sunday morning, hours before any Turnip wine could take effect - bad mistake, depressed all day (Always start with a doddle, then things go well)

After a glass, and 'whilke' under the 'fluence, wouldn't have cared a jot, would just have chucked it in the skip where it belongs and got on with something worthwhile.

Just sorted my first decent grape crop for wine - hard on the toes with all those seeds - Chris.

Tried info but suspect that when nothing happened there might be variation in error clearing from one model to another.

Made a Title error, as mine is a NN-CT890S (rather than 5)

Must admit, was glad when the new inverter didn't go phut - Cust off for a two week holiday, so have time to try sort.
