Hi Davy,
Always have a go - Got some rolls of carpet under foam from the local tip, but only success to date was with a couple of LG/Philips LC320WXN - all others have been failures.
Admit did a different one, and was OK 'till the next day where the screen cracked from one corner as I hadn't got it in quite right - was peeved - Chris.

I have done a few tab repairs on both Samsung and Lg Screens,
more often the tab repair don't work
when it does work, I have not had it back for repair, I always tell customer that this is a last resort, and if it fails, to let me know
But we have to at least give it a go, before we put a new screen in or scrap the tv
Davy:
Hi Turnip, think I know how you feel...!
In my early day's at the Coop - that was after they delivered bread and milk on a horse cart, an engineer loaded a Thorn 1500 into his van, "HOY, Tommy I shouted", brooom.... he was off as though at Brands Hatch, the telly comes flying out in middle of the road bits and pieces all over the darn show! He hadn't shut the door properly... he spent half a morning tracing a faulty capacitor in one of the I.F cans, telly and van were a fair distance apart when he stopped!
I now know what a sick parrot looks like!
Then there was this apprentice, had one of these 1500 in bedroom and fitted an headphone socket, the wire draped over the dropper resistor, one night sizzle, sizzle KABANG and he had his headphones on.
Back on topic.
I'm wondering if condensation sets in on the contacts, I've had this in 455Khz Toko ceramic filters in Ham rigs when they allowed DC on the contacts because of lack of 10nF isolating caps, it causes electromigration, green as heck inside they were!

Hi Davy,
It's a thought - Wasn't the 1400 the one where the coax from the tuner shorted out and the set burned up ?
Guess you're a youngster as entered the trade where the Ferguson 747 was the biz. They sent a 10 inch 78 to fire us up to sell -
Even then we were dubious as we were told that the 747 was Hi-Fi, and the designers were 'freaked' with such quality - We had doubts, as the set was total crap, as much Thorn stuff usually was.
Recall - Visionhire (firm I was with) bought thousands of Thorn IV19s. They were an 'improved' 1400s with FM sound - Still caught fire, and the FM was crap.
Remember we hid most in a cellar 'til the 1500 came out, then disposed of them quietly - 1500s were almost decent with they modern transistors in the signal stages - Chris.
On topic - Never noticed condensation problems, but wonder about some Sammies where the screen feed is at the bottom - There again, if tube heat dislodges the flexy chips - might be an advantage.
Davy:
Dunno about 1400 catching fire, I thought it was Philips or B&O telly's that caught fire.
Dave
