Panasonic SA-AK22 - RCU doesn't.

Hi folks,

Guess we have a Panasonic chap about in our Bruce -

This Hi-Fi works normally with all the tact buttons doing what they should. RCU does nothing but registers on IR tester, and set IR receiver shows input, as output goes up and down a bit.

Had such problems B4 where RCU emits the wrong code so tried a 'Click' programmable and entered code for Panasonic NZQAGB000002 where nothing different happened.

First thought was that Panasonic sometimes switch RCU codes so that one RCU doesn't turn everything on/off at once - Checked spec and isn't the case.

Guess it's one for 'Oil Drum Row' but thought mention - Chris.

How come you get all the fun jobs?

Most IR receivers have smd chip caps across the sensor, as per attachment for a Sharp tv. These can go leaky and stop the remote from working.

Don't know about Panasonic hi-fis, but their DVDs can be coded so as not to disrupt other Pana gear. With these, if the code is wrong, the unit will display "DVD 2", eg, which means the unit needs to be recoded to  a #2 remote. This is easily done, but I couldn't track down a user manual for the SA-AK22 to check.

So muddle along and see what you can dig up (apart from turnips).

Checked IR receiver +ve pin at 5v 'ish and the output pin at a little less. On application of RCU, receiver output fluctuated DC wise indicating something received and fed to M/Proc.

Guess should have used a scope, and in the days when it sat on the bench I would have done - Now have to find it in a drawer somewhere if desperate, and hope the Lithium battery is still OK, and I can remember how to work it, as on first turning it on thought - "Wow it's all in colour, and full of gizmo's" - Haven't used it since.

Found up a user guide where no mention is made of any code variations as it's a pretty old machine, made when a VCR was still nifty.

Will replace IR receiver as have a drawer full of 'em from scrap - Chris.

Think mention that in God's area of England, root crops have been mostly rubbish due to lack of a summer, but all tree fruit and berries are bearing up rather well, so the post-mending glass is well sorted. Wonder how our antipodean chums sort stuff ?
