Backlight replacement (or not)

(1/1)

lew247:
Has anyone tried, or is it even possible to use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00LWYFTHC
to replace the backlight in a tv?
I have a 50inch LG one that has a lot of backlights that have failed, and it's a case of either sourcing new led's for it and soldering them in
or
I wondered if something like the strip above would work  - there's enough leds not to need the diffuser/lens?

Just a thought

It's my own tv so it doesn't matter if it gets broken in the process - its useless without the backlight anyway

They say necessity is the mother of invention. In this case I haven't had the necessity. No reason why it shouldn't work. The only downside is that LED circuits are a constant current setup, so you may have to juggle LED numbers so that it doesn't trigger the backlight protection which will of course have a window of max/min current range.
