I've started refurbing LG strips now.I've built up a stock of 47" & some 50" strips now.I bought some genuine LED diodes from a guy on e-bay listed as 10 for £10,but because I was trade & bought stuff from him before I got 16.I'm sure there's cheaper sellers out there,but these are a genuine LG LED.
What I do now is,locate the duff LED/LED's on the strips,using a bench psu,usually around 3volts to light LED.To remove old LED,I use my side cutters to take off top layer of LED,then your left with metal base of LED,then with soldering iron,flow solder over the remnants,this will then easily come away.Clean up board,apply a small amount of solder to the smaller of the two solder pads.Using tweezers,checking diodes the right way around,reheat the soldered pad,slide diode into place,solder second pad,clean board,job done.To re glue the plastic lenses I bought some 5 second "glue" which is like a thick glue,postion lens,then zap with uv light 5seconds,job done.The only one I'm battling with is a Panasonic,that's got a Chinese screen fitted to it,nearly all the strips have got at least one LED duff,plus they glue down the white plastic sheet to metal work,very tricky getting it off,lots of hair dryer & pulling.Hope it helps someone out.I've also bought some anti static gloves from e-bay,so no finger prints on display when you remove it & no static discharge to screen when handling.They are only cheap & saves a lot of cleaning afterwards.
