Title: Chip for identification- I hope
Post by: Turnip on March 22, 2012,10:57:59
Hi folks,

Like some others, try mend most anything that comes my way. Currently have a heap of Carver caravan (electric/gas) heaters to fettle. Problem is usually the under-rated darlington that drives the fan going O/C, or our electrician brothers getting supply polarity wrong on test and burning print on the controller.

Got one where fan runs all the time. system uses 2 PIC procs and a chip I can't identify. It's marked as-
358 (at the top) then ST-A605 underneath. Can't find it anywhere - any thoughts ? - Chris.

Hi Chris,

How many pins does it have? I would guess it's probably an Op-Amp.

Hi Keith,

Sorry, should have said - it's an 8 pin SM chip that seems to feed the fan from the proc. Tried to get a pic to attach but were all rubbish - camera wouldn't focus down to get a good shot, even with my bench magnifying glass in series.

Note USB microscopes are now available for visually handicapped folks who can't clearly see all pins on recent several hundred pin SMD chips when resoldering.

Just a thought for Quuq youngsters who ever do the new biz - Chris
