Title: Retired
Post by: epi on May 05, 2012,08:15:52
Hi folks,  :c023:
Sorry I haven't been around lately, I closed down in November 2011, and retired Febuary 2012, been busy sorting out all the paper work, I'll be around regularilly see whats new and whats happening.
I'm going into my favorite hobbies, thats playing my 1964 Epiphone Riviera and building and modifying tube amps as in my early days. Just finished EL84 amp now I've started a 6L6 one, hope to finish it tomorrow.
 :brinda:
All the best folks
Frank

Sorry to hear yourre not on as often now, ive only a few years left, despite what the feeling is like in the trade we are mown out, we have just taken on LG and are getting all their returns nationwide, we have been looking for other engineers for two years now, no joy, is the trade that bad!!!
Anyway, good luck with your glass bottles, the only sort I deal with nowadays are those that contain Jack Daniels, take care.

Hi Frank and all the best,

If you're keen got a couple of PX4s around somewhere for triode quality, and room heating as a bonus. Last time I made up such an amp, had to use grid drives of around 100v with a 400v supply for a modest 8 watt headphone output - nice quality, but guess Tetrodes/Pentodes (screened or otherwise) are now the modern biz - Chris.

Hi folks,
Never used PX4's Turnip, have used though El36, EL504 and similar, I've still got a large stock of those tubes. Well retirement, don't think I've hit it right, I'm bored silly most of the day, last year I took up sea diving (snorkel not bottle max. 5mtrs), may start again tomorrow weather's good here, and we have 35ÂșC at the mo, cool........

I'll be around regularilly se watcha all up to..

Hi Frank,

Guess PX4s are a bit old for you younger folks, once did an amp using 6 x PL509 Push pull (needing no series Heater resistor) running on 700v HT with a max cathode current of some 7 amps.

What a sound for the time - Think it was mainly Demis Roussos - now a bit deaf/daft - Chris.

PS - Would snorkel off Norfolk, but here you can't see an inch in any direction, even after breaking the ice.
