Title: Goodmans LD1501 stuck in Hotel mode
Post by: retromax on October 21, 2012,19:21:46
Hi, I've been pulling my hair out with this and was hoping someone here could help me out!
I have an old Goodmans 15" LCD TV model LD1501 and i've put it into 'Hotel mode' via the Service menu (by mistake), the process of entering the service mode on this set is by pressing 'Menu' and then entering '4725' then you have the service options... but... now i've put it into 'Hotel mode' i've obviously lost the menu so cant do anything with it!!!, I think it's also the same model as a Mikomi 15LCD250 under different branding, i've searched and searched for a solution to no avail as every method google brings up doesn't work.
The tv is part of a project i've been doing lately and i'd really like to get back into the service menu and disable the hotel mode as I no longer have any control over any settings on the set.

Goodmans 15" LCD TV model LD1501
Chassis model:17MB01P/Vestel
Hotel mode:MENU1325

Thanks for the reply but...

here's the problem

to be able to access any menu you first need to be able to bring up a menu, so if you press menu when the tv is not in hotel mode the menu appears and you are able to enter the code however...

when you are in hotel mode allready which is my problem, when you press menu you no-longer have a menu as you are in hotel mode so you can't enter any codes as pressing any numbers on the remote has no effect and simply turns over the channels!!

so in my situation if I press menu nothing happens (as it's hotel mode) then I press 1 and it switches to channel 1, press 3 it switches to channel 3, press 2 it switches to channel 2 and press 5 it finally switches to channel 5... hence my problem of it being stuck in hotel mode unable to key in any codes as 'hotel mode' means no menu so people visiting a hotel cant mess with any tv settings besides changing channels or adjusting volume.
It's either some sequence of buttons when powering up or 'possibly' no way to turn it back once you've activated the hotel mode... which if true the latter sounds daft to me.

Obviously due to my project having the set completely removed from it's casing I have access to the circuit board too, is their any way of resetting it?

Hi,
You could try to tricking it into a reset, by shorting pins 5, and 6, of the 8 pin, memory IC,
while plugging the set into the mains, then releasing the short, it's worth a try.
Good Luck,
John.

Would this be ok and not cause any damage?, i'm no engineer but i'm sure i'd be able to do that.

Hi,

It's fine to do this to eeproms, (24xxx types only).
you can short them together or to pin 4 (gnd)

Nice game cab btw, I've got one in the garage I'm working on too.
I've got the cab, joysticks and buttons, a nice amp, pc (going to use it for music, mame and other games), but was considering putting an old xbox instead as I got one for a few quid the other day - think it will stay pc tho.

Cheers,
Si

As first. If he has a machine digitally and analogously choice must to press button for analogously for you can come to menu only in analog choice. Other -experiments to remove eeprom possibly that a machine will turn on or experiments to come to a stop other twill or will must to write down new program to eeprom

I'll have to give it a go, as long as it doesn't mean I erase something and make my tv useless!!, so you have an arcade cab then? are you on any retro-gaming forums?

Would the 8 pin memory IC be the socketed chip?, I can see one 8 pin chip that is socketed and on the pcb is labeled IC600 the chip it's self says 24LC16B, I/P2MA, 0406

I don't want to break the damn thing as I would need the same model TV to match my machine.

The thing is as far as I can make out from the service manual (remember i'm no engineer) I should be looking for the ST24LC21 chip???

I still havn't sorted this but did find that removing that memory eeprom lets the tv startup at defaults which is ok until powered off as nothing new is stored, obviously putting it back in just returns me to my problem, the method of resetting it above doesn't work either :sign0085:

Can the eeprom be replaced with a blank one?, or isn't it 'that' simple

Oh and i'm just trying to use it back as a TV again now as it's been removed from my machine and re-cased as I got a Mikomi version of the same set cheap to put in my machine

Forget everything now as i've took the tv out of hotel mode!!!!

Pressed Menu 1325 then 4725 straight away and voilla!!!....SERVICE MENU!!!!

re-enabled the menu reset everything...

Now the TV can go on to future projects

the 1325 code gives you the 'Hotel'  menu for adjusting the picture settings etc. that i'd lost.

didn't realize that as soon as this menu appeared it was the same as when I just pressed menu before all this trouble started so.... it was just a case of entering that service menu code as soon as that hidden 'hotel' menu appeared.

Bugged me for ages and i'm so glad it's sorted, even though the tv is no-longer in the machine.

I suppose it's obvious when you look at it this way.

Nice learning curve for me.
