Title: Sony STR-KSL40 - 5 ch surround - Crackle then Pop.
Post by: Turnip on July 31, 2014,11:07:13
Hi folks,

Have one of these where at switch on 'Protect' appears in the display. Thought to check for dries and found several, but no better. Checked the 5 O/P chips (SK18752) to find one with a different resistance +ve to -ve.

Wonder if anyone has had the problem ? -  now waiting for a couple from the US of A, as they seem real cheap there, even with the post - Chris.

PS - Great on line folks provided me with the service manual - FOC.

Hi Jordan,

Thanks - noted I already have the manual, but thanks for folks who don't - Chris.

Later - Got a couple of the chips, and replaced the one that had odd resistance readings - seems OK.

Hi Folks,

Back today, as it went Pop - Happens to the best of us.

Noted the replacement chip had popped again, and on checking discovered another of the five had print break connections on two pins, due maybe to heat, but the fan was working. Replaced the chip again, and within half an hour had popped again - was Green socket output where speaker had a series cap and no extensions to the lead. Guess refund due.

Had sinking feelings, as not exactly a Sony audio fan - Chris.

PS - Think mention that Aiwa made decent repairable Hi-Fi stuff  'till Sony took over and then produced  over complicated crap that couldn't be easily repaired.
