Hi folks,
Have one of these where failure to initialise gives rise to U61, and when OK is pressed, DVD drawer doesn't open (to change a duff disc, perhaps) as usual.
In this case as drawer doesn't open, suspect some other problem. Checked for bulgy caps, esp under that digi module, but all look fine.
Any thoughts ? - Chris.

Hi Chris,
U61 means the unit is carrying out a recovery process, which sometimes means a faulty RAM drive, but it may be that you have a corrupted/faulty disc stuck in the machine.
The first thing you need to do is put the machine into standby, if it wont go into standby then hold down the power key on the front of the machine and keep it held down until it goes into standby(usually 5-10 secs)
When it's in standby you then need to hold down the 'stop' and 'channel up' keys on the front of the machine simultaneously until the drawer opens (5-10 secs)
If you are lucky then you will just remove the dodgy disc and everything will work fine! Panasonic machines do not like computer data discs!
If that fails you can try re-initialising the machine by Press [STOP], [CH UP] and [OPEN/CLOSE] keys simultaneously for five seconds when power is off
Good luck
Brian

Hello Brian, and thanks once again,
Tried your suggestions to no avail, but discovered no disc present so guess this one is scrap. Met similar one a few days ago where a dodgy RAM disc caused 'sulk' mode, but in that case it would eject.
Thanks again - Chris.

Hi Chris,
Almost certainly a faulty Ram Drive then!
Its quite common im afraid

Hi Brian,
Thanks, Do we suspect that the RAM drive is the DVD drive mech ? sorry to be a bit un-knowing, but think of me and perhaps some others of our readers that could be confused - Always mildly modest personally, for good technical reasons - Chris

Hi Chris,
Sorry, yes the RAM drive is the DVD drive mech.It won't be worth fixing, too expensive, I don't know why manufacturers don't call things by the same name!
We have TCON boards and LVDS recievers and they are both the same thing!

Hi Brian,
You mean they are all screen drive boards - simplicity is me - Chris.
