Title: Sony KDL-50W829B
Post by: Turnip on October 02, 2020,12:36:15
Hi Folks,
Have one with sound and back-light where the T/con appears duff.
Seems T/cons Hens teeth but sorted one in France. Set flashed an error
so returned it for another which didn't show a picture, but no error flash.

Noted China sorts 'em repaired, so though have a go - S/by error flash
where set doesn't get out of S/by.

Tend suspect it's the power control chip on the T/con as now available
on Ebay. Trouble is, it's awful small with no pins. Gather on replacement
it just slides into place - Bit dubious -  Chris.

Sony seem to be unreasonably particular about their T-Con. I wonder if the TV needs a firmware update to match it to th main board/panel.

T-Con usually give code 5. What happens if you remove the flexies to the panel?                Bruce

Hi Fix,

It's a AUO-G1422 Recently available on Ebay. Pretty cheap but has no pins. I have enough issues with fleas having pins.

Hi Bruce, no code, it just flashes Green and Orange. LVDS out, it flashes, LVDS in and flexies out, set boots up with backlight
with T/cons that don't initially flash. Guess confusing. Got a SSB while ago, just in case. Wasn't that - Chris.

Hi Cat,

Has a fuse which is OK.

Pretty convinced it's the power control chip, as a known issue with some T/cons. Just don't fancy replacing it, as it has
no pins. Some folks say a new chip just 'flows' into position with bottom heat.

Never known anything to 'Flow into position' - Usually quite the reverse. Mind you, I'm building up such a collection of duff
t/cons that no-one cares to pay return postage - Might have a go as the chips are cheap - Chris.

Hi Chris, green/orange flashing means it's busking for a firmware upgrade. USB stick, turn the TV on and insert the stick, then wait. Light will flash white for a long time and it will eventually come on.     Bruce

Thanks Bruce,

But if the set doesn't fire up, as it doesn't with two out of four T/cons - Guess use one that does where the set fires up with sound and back-light, but a blank screen. Deff. worth a punt - Chris.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. The orange/green flashing doesn't mean that T-Con is faulty. It is the TV's way of saying "come on you slacker -get your finger out and upgrade me".               Bruce

Hi Bruce, can't argue, so guess try update with a T/con not having a flashing issue.

Panels which flash keep the set in S/by.

Still suspect it's a T/con power control chip issue as Ebay now has heaps of 'em, getting
cheaper every day - Chris

Got a message from T/con supplier in China,

Dear friend Thank you very much for your message We have tested the kit OK before we sent it to you , so let's solve the problem together Do you mean the Indicator light flash (error code) and no boot logo ? If yes , then this is the boot program problem. you can replace your original boot IC to the new board , then it will work . Please check my attachment photo. Looking forward to your reply Have a good day Best Regards Sam.

Didn't get the photo, but feeling dubious - Chris.
