Was given a 23" Tesco telly X23/50G no backlights.
The tubes had burned and cracked around the cathode ends, all I can tell you is they are 2mm dia, I estimate the length 522mm glass to glass ends..... anyone tried converting these to LED's?

Ordered a LED converter kit from the Far East, let you know how it goes.
One or two folks reckon the LED strip gives more light, I have doubts since the set used a twin pair of 2mm tubes.

Hi Dave,
Sounds good as those 2mm tubes are horribly thin and tend to go 'Pfft' silently just when you think you've got 'em sorted to reassemble the screen with heat shrink at the ends - Chris.

Yep, had it a couple of times where the 2mm tubes had cracked a couple of mm in from the connections, this time all four was cracked. I thought what the heck I'll give it a try it's a lot cheaper than four 2mm tubes, always seem the 2mm ones.
Sneeze on em' and they bust!

Yeah... sorted!
Got a LED converter kit from iCCFL.com. This consisted of 2x 96 led strips and a inverter for about £18, the inverter was so small I thought it was a joke. The LEDs was connected in groups of three.
The only problem I had, well two but I don't wanna be telling! The strips was a wee bit too long, all I had to do was to snip two leds of each strip. Switch on, and we had backlights! I used Impact formally Evostick to secure the strips.
One good thing is the supply plug to the inverter matched the original one, no mod required here.
Now the other problem...... some clown but the strips in so the wires was at the wrong end, meaning the screen was upside down.... so what to do? Simple, turn the screen round so the piccy is the right way up, the inverter was mounted on the other side of the board, with the original wiring loom.
A darn sight better and a little cheaper than ordering 4x 2mm CCFL's and bursting em' in the fitting process.
As for the brightness I couldn't tell the difference, the picture did look a little more crisper to me, certainly no problems with shading or shadowing.

For factory service menu, press menu and then 471147 if you can't get into 1st time installation menu press, menu 8,8,8,8. I think this is the 'norm' on these Tesco Wonder Telly's.
