Hi folks,
Curious one as cust says if left on for a day it eventually works OK. When turned on the backlight comes up but initially no display. After a while varying vertical bands appear and then go.
Suspected duff screen so used forced Scart input - No sound either, and no buttons function apart from on/off.
Thought cook all panels for a while but seems to make no difference, and no obvious popped caps.
Any thoughts ? - Thanks - Chris.

Hi,Chris
being a LG chassis, could be a main board problem,so the oven treatment,as suggested by Bruce(!) some time back, may cure it.
just a thought !

Hi Chris,
Nothing to lose, Chris. Pop it into the oven preheated to 200 degrees for 10 minutes. Send the wifey out to pick some turnips or you'll get a tongue-lashing about the smell.
Be sure to use the oven timer if you suffer from "oldtimers".
Other option is to reflow the micro with a hot air gun, possibly a riskier option. Use heaps of flux if you do.
Not always successful, but I've heard a lot of good reports about it. Have even resurrected an LG main board myself.

Thanks Mike and Bruce,
Shoved it the oven at 200C for ten minutes 'til toasty - Sadly then no go at all, so off to the Flea for another. There's lots about using various screen sizes and makes, where I can maybe use saved data as they mostly don't admit screen maker - Mine's an LG.
Thought to read the Eeprom first, so attach - Chris.
PS - Was a new fan oven so perhaps 150C next time.

Update on this one,
Thought get a 42 inch SSB and maybe tweak the eeprom if there were problems. Didn't notice that replacement panel uses a different one of the three possible socket positions to feed the T-con, also the USB socket at the top of the panel was missing.
Wonder if anyone has sorted a SSB for a 37 inch ? - Chris.
Attach bin for the 42 inch - Might be useful.

Hi Folks,
Just got a replacement SSB from the Flea with IR and buttons thrown in.
Result is exactly the same as with the old board - Vertical bands on the screen, only S/by button functions on the set and the RCU doesn't function at all.
Seems to leave the T-con or Power/Inverter - Both expensive.
Any further thoughts ? - Thanks - Chris.

Would a calor gas barbecue with a closed lid do the same as an oven. At least the smell would be outside. I dont have a temperature gauge to try it.

hi chris not sure if the same had a similar fault on 5010 had to freeze ic404 on the mainboard and update firmware via usb cheers

Hi Sinclair,
Gather heating the BGA by various means can mean a cheap fix - Other folks cook the back of the board under the BGA then give the top heat sink a flash of heat that might get the balls settled.
In my case the problem was elsewhere - Ruled out the PS with a change of caps where voltages are as specified. It's now T-con or screen, not yet sure which.
When it came in, Cust said vertical bars for the first few hours then picture perfect - Not yet seen a picture - Have warmed the T-con to perfection and now suspect a screen issue.
Hi Shaun - Thanks, another chap suggested exactly the same solution, but with a change of SSB doubt if it's the problem this time - Thanks all - Chris.
