Title: LG OLED55B6V TV Stnby light only
Post by: Davy on May 20, 2020,11:44:58
The only things that is working is the standby light, the power supply appears to be OK. I downloaded the latest software and still no joy.

I noted around the aerial socket area there is what looks like a dc-dc inverter.... there's only mV measured arounda largish diode, then there's large a ceramic capacitor marked F6E measured 27nF, one side soldered to the tuners casing... on the board it's marked VA6781???? There's only mV showing on my meter around here and the diode, I'm thinking this capacitor is decoupling for of the inverter.

Anyone come across before on the LJ6 chassis? Thanks,

Dave

Hi Davy, these OLEDs will go into lockdown, especially with display panel faults. Once in lockdown, only the LG service remote will reinitialise them. If you have such a device, press the P-ONLY button while closely watching the screen. The TV should power up briefly then go into lockdown again. During this brief window, if the display panel is faulty, you'll see perhaps a red vertical slash on the screen.
This means the panel is faulty.  This has been my experience with these.                                Bruce

Oh dear, thanks Bruce.... are we thinking right asking if the OLED's are as reliable as the LED's?

I don't have a Service Remote, should I get anymore that needs one I will get one.

The story of this telly is..... his friend had it in for service and got it back, whether it had been repaired or not I can't say but he gave it him not working.

Thanks Bruce, I'll see what the guy says.

Hi Dave, if you do a few LGs then it's a very useful tool to have. Main boards on some newer LGs are supplied with the "in-stop" activated,
so you need the service remote to initialise them. Also, it can sometimes restore a TV that presents as being unable to turn on. The display panel is the achilles heel of OLEDs - I don't recommend them to punters.

Thanks Bruce looks like it's back to the ol' candle power for back lighting for reliability, I can imagine the risk with so many pixels having to glow...  the next LG I'll get a servicing remote if needed.
