Post by: tv tony on July 12, 2008,04:52:51
Over the last few months there have been several reports on the Technosonic LCD3251. Most of these are stuck in standby, we are now able to supply the e-proms ready programmed, all enquiries to tv-tony, UK only. Thanks for reading!

Would this include TV not powering on, no standby LED? Or is this a seperate fault?

Sorry no, The chips i supply are to cure the stuck in standby, BUT the earlier psu's fitted in these are unreliable, usually its the standby 5v rail that fails, is yours the philips psu, light in colour or the earlier one, if early u will see that the 5v chip has a hole in it, but just dont change the ic, it will pop it, i can repair your psu if u wish.

hello alun, re your lcd3251, its certainly crozzled, but yes, we can do it, the only problem is that the pcb can become conductive where the diode and wire link is, but we can sort that, £35.00 plus p&p.

hello shaun,
as its not a 3251 we cannot help you, but on working on these your 5v line must be spot on, if this is what u have repaired, i would look around there, the constant flashing led arouses suspicion, ill try and send u service manual, good luck

I ordered the repair kit for this and a work colleague who used to work in electronics is soldering it in...however..

The component at F300 was completely blown out so we dont know the orientation of this component can anyone help?

In my pic above it is the component immediately to the left of the Chip. Should the grey line on it be up or down?

If work colleague  does not know what a fuse is he did not do a lot of work on electronics;F300 is a 3:15 amp fuse and is there to protect the circuit from a short in the primary power supply!
The kit can be obtained from CHS at about £21:00 if you do not have a trade account?

well said, but being cutting left on one side, ALL tv's are lethal, perhaps non-technical should be made aware of this from the outset, the old adage from 30 or so years ago, its the picture valve stirs memories.

i emailed tv tony regarding my tecknosonic stuck in stanby and this man is a genius, sent him my eeprom and he sent it back free of charge unfortunately it was my main board but he took the time and effort for a newbie and his advice was absolutely spot on. anyone reading this should email this man first if they need help with their tecknosonic 3251 stuck in stanby i'm sure he will help

Does any one know if TV Tony is still available re 3251 power supply problems.
As many others, the photo of Alun's board could be mine.

Hi Dave
Thanks for the reply.
I am looking at a set for a friend and wanted some advice or a repar.
I see that there has been some confusion re spares kit identification re F300 (fuse) and D200 ( on board logo) -D325 in kit ( a bead of some sort) either way an orientation would be helpfull for bothe diodes. The transformer shows a 4.6 ohm reading with no visible signs of shorting.
Malcolm

ps did any one ever sort this problem out this particular set has had the Complete power supply replace three time up to now!!!

Hi Malcolm,

Don't think you said what your problem is - Profilo troubles are usually either a shot 5v S/by chip - pretty obvious as it has a side blown out (which can kill the S/by TX) or more usually caps that bulge and drool - often down the 5v S/by area knocking out S/by chip some zeners and a few more bits, covered by some repair kits - done a few.

Lots of Quuq threads, some suggesting replacing a duff main board Eeprom when all else fails - Chris

Hi Chris
The fault is a rather spectacular wire link destroying blow up around T20 see an earlier picture posted by Alun, as I haven't worked out how to post mine yet,

I have just received the repair kit from OHM - great service BUT unfortunately IC21 (FSD200) was riveted into the antisatic foam damaging its legs and so I hope to get a replacement next week.

I have seen old posts which indicate this is an old known issue and it puzzles me that no one has come up with a solution. Comments seem to indicate that the power supply fails on initial power up, which is what has happens to this and two other power supplies - so perhaps it is a surge or transient problem???
However I hope the next post will be one of triumph

Over the last few months there have been several reports on the Technosonic LCD3251. Most of these are stuck in standby...

Hi, I got this TV stuck in standby with no visible component damage on any PCB and the 5v & 24v are working fine. I assume by your post this may be a firmware issue?

If it is firmware would it be on the removable 'V1_00' BIOS chip or the soldered one on the tuner board or is it one of the other chips?

I have a chip programmer so am I able to re-flash the firmware and if so where can I get a copy of it?

Thanks in advance.

Phill.
