Hello,
First post here but forum seems really good.
I have got an LG 42" plasma serial number 406MACT27593 and have a 20mm black vertical line that comes and goes. I took out cover on the TV so the insurance company says they will replace the TV with a new one but i was wondering if its worth offering the insurance comapny a few pounds for the TV and get it repaired.
Does anybody know what sort of costs would be invloved to repair this as from reading through problems on the this forum it seems quite common.
thanks

can anybody help with the black line as i'm not sure wether to get the insurance company take away the old plasma or not.

More than likely it's COF (Chip On Film) connector at bottom of panel. Resolder the 4x SMD resistors on the film. The faulty connector will be inline with your 20mm line.
Generally a good idea to do all film connectors.

hello...it does sound like a bad connection...this will be from the control board to the screen...all the plasic film strips will need cleaning,(with metho)..be careful you doent bend pins...can be a bitch to refit the tapes back in their slots..dont dispare though .once you get the hang off fitting them in,you will do fine ...also check all solder joints on the base connectors were these go in...

I'm sure someone should of mentioned this but do you have a decent solder iorn.
I take it your not a tv engineer, are you really sure that you want to be taking the back off? its a pain to get down to cof's and I think your modle is a V6 so its more likley to be panel (so you done have anything to loose I suppose) but you would need a fairly small point to do the job properly.
