Hello Folks,
Have one of these where picture is initially static vertical coloured lines, fading to a dark blue screen. With Scart input there is an occasional dark blueish picture over lower part of screen but no sound. Sometimes, for a few seconds a normal snowy screen appears. Eventually screen goes dark with backlights still working.
Any Ideas - Chris Steele.

Hi chris
If it wasn't for the intermittent white noise i'd have thought lvds or screen driver.Have you taken av out to another set?
But i think with the range of symptoms i'd be looking for a ripple from the psu

Hello Chris,
Checked on Philips tech.
they describe this fault; "Vertical coloured lines at start up,after 1min. pic. becomes darker?"
Unfortunately the cure is to rplace the screen display panel!!
Hope this helps!
cheers
Bri.

Hi Nick and Brian,
Thanks for your help, seems that the set will join the growing pile. I'm sure there'll be gold there at some point, if I can keep finding the space. Incidentally, am I right suspecting the 'Screen display panel' is the front bit with the tubes in - not just the driver or whatnot ?

Hi Chris,
Afraid so.

Hello Brian,
Thanks for that,
Do I guess that one needs to be 'Kosher' in some respects to view that 'Philips service' site. Also, do you know of some for those nifty Chinese designs that give us so much fun in trying to work out how they function (for only the guarantee period without a cooling fan, and failing a few days after) just from chip info ?
Some say it's those capacitors, as '85 types gave little trouble in the old days, but if they don't bulge or weep, and there's lots of them - where to start ?
Thanks Chris.

Hi folks,
Had given up on that Philips 'till the last post. Well - must admit I have hated anything 'Philips' quite seriously since CP90's when time consuming P/S - SM components and Micro problems that few customers would pay for, made life less than profitable.
In hopes of an easy, if unlikely, solution - Chris.

had this fault b4 it is faulty display but sometimes if u got time take display out pcb on top of display connects with ribbon through display to side pcb there r test points on pcbs if lucky you can find fault by testing each test point then hard wire faulty connector presto workin display all depens on type of display

Hello folks and adm2007,
Many thanks for that, will check it out and report back - Chris.
See what you mean when you say it takes time. Note that top test points are 300's and 400's side ones - rather less in number are all 500's. Question is - which goes to which - you wouldn't happen to know, perhaps, and what is 'Presto' in servicing terms?
