Title: Samsung LE40R88BDX/XEU
Post by: norman on October 09, 2009,15:23:50
Hi Guys, Anyone have a manual for the above that I can beg, borrow, or steal. The eprom is corrupted and if you have a list of options etc that would be most helpful. I was going to purchase a new eprom, they are out of stock at present. Please help. Norman

Hi Daz, I would need all the settings as the eprom is badly corrupted. I have done the adjustments as per previous posts but can't get the set to find any channels after scanning, also no dvb available. I would appreciate it if you could do this for me. I was going to order one but chs are quoting 5-10 days delivery. I am sure you will know how impatient customers are. Many thanks, Norman

Hi Norman.did you read my post on or about 9.9.09 re ic1803 . Next time I'm ordering from chs,a spare eeprom is going to be first on list.I think I was lucky as new one I fitted set up it's self in within 2 mins.
I don't think chs took as long as 5 days for del..but that was in August and samsung stocks could be low.

i have scribbled down all the settings, the quickest way would be for me to fax them to you (if you have a fax) i will type them out for you but there are 4 pages of settings it will take me a day to do at the speed i type.

Hi John, I have read your previous post, I have two of these tv's needing eeproms. CHS list them as out of stock 5-10 days delivery. I know they are very good at sourcing parts, so maybe the timescale given is only to cover themselves. Thanks for your input, I will order spare chips anyway. Regards, Norman

Hi Daz, Many thanks for the eprom info. Your handwriting is better than mine, I will try these settings tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thanks again, Norman

Just read your posts as I am having the same issue with a Samsung LCD, I checked and seen that the serial |eprom is a Samsung 24C256BN, do you have the spec for this part as Atmel do a 24C256 part that is their type number AT24C256C that has Vcc input as 1.7 to 5.5v and is arrayed at 38k x 8
       Thanks for any help

Hello,
I understand that a 24C64 EEPROM will work in place of the 24C256, as not all
the locations are used, and the 24C64 is big enough.
Has anybody used one of these?

John

guys, I think I may have a corrupt eeprom also on this exact model......

LE40R88BDX/XEU
My Exact Version is the SP02

Caps all seem fine, also usually if it is the caps the problem is progressive as they get worse.

I would like to try to reset the eeprom using pin shorting but not really clear on the instructions,
does anyone know of a good source for an outlined step by step guide?

I recon I am experienced enough do physically do it, but would need to follow precise instructions.

:sign0144: so i  :051bye: to everyone it seems like a nice forum to be a part of.

TIA for any help you guys can offer on this Samsung Model which seems to have two main common faults

1. failing capacitors on psu
2. failing eeprom data on mainboard

Hi all,

I have repaired nearly 100 of these and in almost all cases the eeprom has been corrupt due to noise on the 5v line caused by the defective caps in the PSU. Replacing these caps is never normally enough in R87 and R88 models (most other Samsung models rarely damage the eeprom!), I now always replace the eeprom as a matter of course. "Resetting" the eeprom rarely lasts as a cure, as the eeprom invariably fails at a later date.
You can simply fit a blank 24C64, which is easily and cheaply available (around 50p from CHS), there is no need to fit a preprogrammed eeprom in these sets or to copy data. When you first switch on the set it will go through a coupkle of on/off cycles, during which you will worry if the fault is still present. This is simply the blank eeprom initialising, nothing to worry about. After that all should be well, with sometimes just a tweak or two in the service menu.

This is my first post on this forum, I hope that I can be of more help in the future.

Ken

Hi KROB!  :051bye:

I have my parents tv here, its just clicking on and off, nothing else happening.

do you think I should turn it on and wait 10mins see if it corrects itself?

or would I be doing it more harm than good?

You are having a laugh..............aren't you???????
To suggest that you leave it for 10 minutes to "correct itself", on an engineering forum, is ludicrous!!

The answer to your question is already on this post. Replace the defective electrolytics in the secondary of the PSU, (either 4 off 1000uF or 2 off 2200uF), and then fit a new blank 24C64 eeprom. I also assume that you are competent to replace these, if not can I suggest that you call a TV engineer?

Ken,

Thanks for your kind words KROB

I mis-read your post, I thought you were suggesting after a few cycles it will power up.

which is actually correct with the "common fault" of failing capacitors in these models.

The unit will just take longer and longer to power up as the caps degrade.  but you already know this by the looks of things.

You are talking more directly in respect to faulty eeproms on the mainboard I noticed.

I have replaced 100`s of PSU boards for the LE40 range because of the caps or replaced the caps which was much more cost effective if i never had a spare board supplied at the time as sometimes we had limited time on site when I was serving as a TV Engineer, but it`s been a while :)

I`ll replace the caps on the PSU and report back how I get on. I will also take into account your advice regarding "failing at a later date if the actual eeprom is not replaced" which sounds interesting and more to the "cause" of the problem.

Take Care.

Zorg.

Hello Guys
 :sign0144:

Could I have a look to the  daz`s "scanned the 4 pages"
or may someone have  dump files with active inputs
Thanks in advance

I have read posts , about Samsung eeproms,
I have the same problems with Eeprom dumps , both corrupt, after PWR fail.
2 TV`s LE40R87BDX/XEU
  and   LE40R88BDX/XEU
Just deal on this problem little bit different way
Errased all existing info from EEprom (new EEproms all data xFF)
Start TV with errased EEprom (new). It starts , Plug & Play
both tuners ATV & DTV are working, sound picture OK.

But anyway there are problems with setting
AV AVscart HDMI1,2,3 are not active and I can`t find where to activate them

Evening all  ,   :sign0144:  so be gentle  ,

just aquired a samsung LE40R88BDX/XEU

It needed the caps done so i done them and still wouldnt work so found info on google which was linked to this group so ive joined up ...

still wouldnt kick in so i read up about the eeprom problems with this model but there was no way i could solder a wire to leg 5 & 6 on the eeprom - so opted for the shorting it out with a screw driver ,

eventually after 30-40 goes it finally kicked in and now its working - had a bit trouble getting DTV to work but sorted now ,

the problem ive now got is on my source list the only active ones are : TV , Ext 1 , Ext 2 , DTV ...

Not active are : AV , S-Video , Component , Pc , HDMI 1 2 & 3 ...

i adjusted the settings in service mode as per Kilroys link on group but still no joy ...

Any help much appreciated or a copy of settings which are good for this model ...

cheers
Paul

Hi
i have one 40r86bcx near me with same problem, 24c256 is now replaced and everything seems to be fine, then i wanted to see that problem what you have here with hdmi ports. Yes, you are right, you cant select them...but then i remember that my sony led 46ex700 is doing same, if no signal at that input - you cant select it, only if you put some device to that port - that input became active right away, so i tried to connect dreambox 800 to hdmi ports, all of them 3 is working fine, and that port became active in that list one second later after i put dreambox on and is deactivated if i remove power. So, is it feature you dont know about or tv still not ok? because i never had samsung at home, i dont know how it must be

Hi serg604 ,

I was starting to think the same thing that the HDMI port's only become active once something is connected to them - But i dont have anything that's HDMI to test them ,

My 6yr old daughter is now using it with her Dvd connected via scart ,

Thank's for confirming that this could be why they are not showing up as Active ...

Cheer's
