Give this a try.
Switch on and hold down both Vol+ and Vol- buttons on the side of the TV for about 10-15 seconds. The set should reboot and the install menu should appear. I see this most often on sets which are being used with poor digital reception.

thanks for the reply
managed to get set into smode by shorting the sam pads on the main signal pcb and reseting the software, this got the analogue working and the video inputs, but not the digi, as customer uses sky they where happy, but suspect the software is corrupt but you need compair to reprogramme it.

hi, i have just had this fault on the same model set as yours. it seems to be a corrupt NVM.if you download the service manual it tells you how to reload NVM to its default values .take the back off the set and find the sdm points on main board.with everything turned off short sdm points on the main board press the +channel button on the tv not the remote, then turn on from the mains. when you release the channel button it should flash a couple of times then say uploaded.turn off then on again and set should be ok.this method might take a couple of goes

thanks for the reply taloola,
yes did that and i did get the set working but the digi packed up again after 10 sec, suspect a fault with the digi cpu, philips have suffered from far to many software problems on all there sets over the past few years, how i long for the good old days!

Hi Daz,
You must be thinking of the Philips A10, and most subsequent chassis. Philips is cool, but not yet cool enough - Chris.

Hi daz,try this:enter the digital menu,go to the 'info' line then key in from the remote green,red,yellow,9,7,5,9;you should enter another menu;now key in 1,2,3,6,5,4 and you are in the DCSM,go to the 'frequency' (or something like that, sorry, don't remember the right title!) press'OK',the TV should return to the default set-up and you can start the digital scan.it works.

Thanks Michael
TV back with customer but will give it a go next time,
Chris, yes that painter chip was the ruin of many a Sony and Toshiba as well, all seems unnecessarily complicated these days.
