Post by: Turnip on December 02, 2009,05:29:08
Hi Folks,

Have one of these where S/by led flashes, HT is 100V and LOP isn't getting warm. Checked secondary HT cap - OK.

Any thoughts - Chris.

Hi Daz, and thanks,

Had further words with customer who admitted that set crackled loudly for 20 mins or so, but she was patient and persisted 'till the picture came through.

Suspect I am in a LOPT and cringing semiconductor situation - should one bother especially with all those new LED backlight sets just round the corner - no invertor - no probs.

Just joking, but that kept us Telly bashers fairly compos for years  - Chris.

god bless joe public, they do have an uncanny ability to stick there head in the sand, right upto the point the set catches fire. (some will persist in the hope the fire puts its self out)

Thanks Daz,

Guess you will soon too become a 'Hero' like what I is - well, cool (but it needs pain and gruesome music from the 50's for this advancement) - Were you even born then - Chris - really old, but shuffling.

and no i wasnt born then, as i am nowt but a boy (almost 40) however after 20 years of fixing everything from sinclair spectrums to those blasted plasma tvs i have aged horribly and now i have the body and mind of a eighty year old.

Hi Daz, and happy Crimble to all Quuq folks,

Some of us old folks had to try fettle those initial Acorn Atom computers with that 12k RAM pack, and ZX81's with wobbly extensions.

Modern folks have it just too easy now with '7' the biz.

Re-plugging my ram-pack again, for Manic Miner. 'Jet Set Willy' was truly rubbish - discuss    - Chris.

Happy Xmas Chris,
your right of coarse, new tech guys have the luxury of board swopping, but it is fun watching all those people wasting money on the latest pointless ver of windows(bill gates must have enough money by now).as for the specky, we had to endure hours of tedious desoldering (all those bloody ram chips) as for jet set willy a truly pointless game made worse by that horrible rubber key pad (what was sir Clive thinking of?) but the constant need for a new keyboard membrane kept a lot of us in work, I was more of a commodore fan (real keyboard, far more civilised)
ahh happy days!
