Hi there i am a owner of a maxim 37" lcd tv and may have found a fault, again this looks to be related to my power supply unit i have one small IC chip that looks blown actualy i can see plainly, one leg is completly separated, basicly my tv comes on and just goes blank sometimes it will show stripes down the screen,
The reason i have come to the conclusion that the chip is the issue is my brother switched the tv on one morning and seen a slight flash comming from that area of the back of the lcd tv and smelled burning,
My question is can you help me thanks i have gone to the trouble of removing the power board and can clearly see the IC chip is blowing at one side i dont know if its some voltage regulator chip not great with electronics even though i did a course on it a few years back,
The chip has a code on top of it i typed this code in to google with no results
Hope to hear from you soon thans for reading,

You will require a power supply repair kit probably, which should be fitted by a tv engineer. These kits contain surface mounted chips and if glued to the pcb,can be difficult to replace.

i see its quite a standard looking chip with 6 legs and is solderd to the board quite large

Took a look for a kit and found the chip in the kit its the top left chip, yea its ic21

The best thing to do if you want that works is, take it to a
service.
Otherwise it is safer to have to buy a new appliance.

This may sound stupid but however i went ahead and orderd a replacement ic21 chip for the board thinking it may be down to this issue and went ahead removing the old blown ic21 chip from the board then solderd in the new ic21 chip and refited board thinking i would see anouther issue appear the exact same syptoms are happning as before,
But new ic chip is not blowing out dont know why the exact same problem is still there even though i changed over with a new ic chip any one got any idias as to why this can be happning,
Thanks for helping me out guys,

Fitting a new fsd is very unlikley to cure the fault,
What is the psu number? As stated by the other tv engineers, you need to fit a reapir kit, i'm the picture of the one shown is not for your set.
We design the kits with so many parts to sure the fault and increase reliability. We wouldn't do a repair kit with 4 caps or one ic which is the case with a lot of Samsungs etc.
You'll have something else short somewere casued by the fsd blowing

Thanks for the quick reply well this makes sense now, i will upload a picture of the board so you can get a clear look at its numbers, there is a kit for it im sure i orderd the ic chip from your self, cant remember need to look up my order lists,
Just to clear things up though i get no standby light at all when switched on the back light comes on sometimes but its irregular, on the odd occation i get the backlight come on with a bounch of multicoloured stripes come down the screen most of the time it just sits with no light on and plays dead,
I dident relise there was a kit actualy for my tv but when i took a closer at your site im sure there is one there,
I would order this with no issues it would be sad if this was not a fix though,

Ok so iv decided to just go with the option of handing the board to the proffesionals, To be honest i dont think im qualified for the job and have to give respect where its due, i would be happy to send my power board to Ohm Supplies and let them do there work on it,
I will contact him by email and set something up as there service seems attractive and reliable i mean the options are to go by these componants and for all i know solder them badly and not have the proper tools to know actualy where the board is faulting out,
The price offerd for a repair service is very decent i repair computers everyday and laptops and do the odd powerjack repair on laptops but i think im out of my leage with this one, thanks alot though guys,

I think Sparky is a nearer with the board type, although its a slightly different board. Poflio who make it have a tendancy to use the same basic type in many sets, Versions A, B,C,D,E etc. all doing the same job but not interchangable
The very odd thing is if the FSD200 has blown up, then how is the set switching on without a 5v stand by rail? None of the other voltages will be there

Good question about the fsd200 i to be honest do not have a clue i thought it was that that was causing it to be faulty so i dont have a clue as to why it would randomly switch on with only the back light and some times show strips on the screen,
From what your saying if the fsd200 blows it should not switch on at all which is not the case here ok the screen or buttons do not function and some times it dosent switch on but if a switch it a few times i get a light that stays on and then switch it again it wont come on, I would like to send it out to get repaired as its got me clueless,
