Hi guy's,got one of the above which comes on with just under half picture on the left handside facing the front. It's one of those l.c.d's that has both master & slave inverter p.c.b's.Which can be obtained for around £100.but I noticed that you can buy repair kits for them.Has any body fitted one of these kits?reading the blurb it say's that there is a burn up on master or slave! but I can't find a burn up or shorts on any of the devices plus mzd3 & szd3 are not fitted on my p.c.b's.The inverter transformers seem to me to be o.k.Any thoughts please Maff.

Hi maff99
if you can see the picture then your inverter ok
or just see for few seconds?
take look on back of the screen you can see the back light on or not

I've found out it's a common fault on this set & is the inverter p.c.b's that cause it.They have modified the p.c.b's three times now.You can get a pair much cheaper than the Philips ones which do the same job.

Hi All
Have come across both scenarios recently. On the first one the IC on the master board had a hole blown in its side along with shorted o/p transistors. It looked to have failed in a spectacular fashion with a sooty deposit sprayed over the board and I was wary about the possibility of more damage than might be put right by the kit. Decided the safest course of action was to replace master and slave boards. The second set showed no signs of failure on either board and having seen an example of what the kit was intended to repair, I decided (like yourself) that fitting the kit may not cure the problem. Again I took the safe option and fitted a pair of boards. Fortunately (unusually) both customers accepted their quotes.
Has anyone used the repair kit and on which of these two fault situations?
Regards
John.

Hi john
yes I have got away with just changing the chip on several occasions, you usually find the fets measure short when the chip is in circuit but are fine once the faulty ic is removed, be wary of boards that don’t have a blown ic as the fault where the pic appears for a second can be caused by the lamps them self’s, got stuck with a couple of inverters due to this on similar sets, but suppose will use them eventually.

Hi daz
Thanks for the info- will need to consider that possibility if another one comes in with no signs of distress on the inverter boards. The one I repaired with no apparent damage had the same symptom as maff99s set - half a picture, but it didn`t trip off.
Cheers
John.
