hello all
this plasma set has a blown lower drive board causeing lines on the screen. i have done many lg plasmas with this fault and on those sets you have to replace the lower drive pcb and the y sus pcb or the drive board will blow out again. is it the same with panasonics? or can i get away with just changing the drive pcb? if any one has done 1 could you let me know

Hi Daz,

When you say lower drive board I presume you mean the SD board?
The best way is to disconnect the SD board completely from the set (you can leave the screen ribbons connected, but make sure nothing else is touching) Then switch on, if the SD board is faulty then you will just get the Top half of the screen working, if the set doesnt work then the SC board could be faulty.

The problem is that a defective screen can 'blow' your Sd board, and you won't know if the screen is faulty until you fit a new Sd board.

You say the picture had lines, can you post a pic? Normally when SD board blows the set becomes dead

have removed sd pcb, top half of screen works ok. hole blown in one of the ics on the sd pcb. waveform on tpsc1 looks ok, and have had a good look at screen incase of burnt pixels.
have ordered a cheap sd board from flattvparts, supose will just have to fit, switch on, stand well back and cover ears! must be easyer ways to make a living
will post what happens on monday

Hi Daz,

I think you will find SC board will be ok then, It is just a question if the screen is the cause!

I'm afraid it is a question of having to sacrifice a new SD board to prove it!!

I would fit the new SD board without the screen ribbons connected  and make sure the set runs ok,
and then introduce one ribbon at a time and see at what point it blows the Sd board.

Have a look at the screen with a magnifying glass to see if you can see a 'blown' pixel

I have had blown pixels knocking out Su and Sd boards before, and i have had screens that for some reason just blow the boards.

sd pcb fitted, all seems to work ok

Hi, that was impressive, edge of bench stuff.

Had that trouble with LG - as one does, but with a spare lower panel and Y-sus from the local tip all was well. Thoughts of a sacrificial new lower panel makes me shudder - we hardly make a pound anyway, and these Tories will have new pension ideas to keep their green spacious playing fields well filled with chinless wonders.

Surviving, and remembering 'Never had it so good' just didn't know what it signified - well for me, nothing - North Sea Oil and Electricity - too cheap to meter slipped by to heat Selwyn Gummers Beef Twizzlers - Ah well - Chris.

PS - Feel that the East Coast has too many Tory Twizzlers
