Title: SAMSUNG DVD-SH853M

When switched on all this machine will do is display HDD. No functions will work other than power on/off.
Any ideas ?

Hi Phil,

Samsung have had problems with the ribbon from the HDD getting 'cracked' Remove it and inspect it.

 You could try a factory reset:

"Turn on power and power up, no disc inside unit. Press and hold down both program buttons for over 5 seconds and the unit will default to factory settings"
