Title: Samsung LW29A13W AL29AO problem
Post by: dervdub on August 21, 2010,09:36:47
Hi,

I picked up a Samsung LW29A13W with a no power on problem, pulled the external PSU apart and replaced 2 very buldged caps, the set now turns on but the backlight is unreliable, 50/50 on wether it works or not.

When I initally repaired the PSU the set would not run up the backlight at all, it would always shut down after breifly lighting the bottom part of the screen. I pulled the back off and removed one of the power supply cables from the main board to the inverter board, the set then powered up and lit the screen - I got a picture, upper half of screen was dull due to the lack of power to the inverter.

I then examined the inverter board and found a frazzled spider tucked partly under one of the transformers, I removed the spider, replaced the power cable from main to inverter and the set works, but only 50/50 chance of getting the back light up.

As the set comes on, if the backlight lights the whole screen up it will work, if it comes on and only lights the bottom half of the screen it goes into protect and shuts down the inverter - the set works regardless in the background.

The inverter is an HUI-535 and I cannot find any info on it or a replacement for it. I've taken some readings with a DVM on the transformers and they all seem to be in the same resistance range.

If anyone can shed anty light on this it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi D-D,

As Sparky suggests would check/replace in-line PS (they're pretty cheap)

Curious as few 29 inch sets have such a PS unless 24v

Pics of invertor would be handy - Chris.
