Hi guys,
Wondered if anyone can help me with my sony tv. I was watching my sony wega kd32dx50u tv last night and it suddenly turned its self off. When I tryed to turn it back on again it just seemed dead.
So I unplugged it from the wall and left it for the night. When I arived home from work this afternoon I pluged in the tv and tryed turning it on. When I pressed the power button the tv seem to turn on as normal but befor anything apeared on the screen after about 10 seconds it switched itself off again. The standby L.E.D seemed to light up both green and red at the same time, then flashed red 23 times and just shut down again.??? Has any body experienced this problem with sony tv befor?
Ive rung round lots of tv repair shops and because its ("AN OLD CRT") no one seems interested in fixing it.
I dont have a clue about the workings of tv but an not affraid to have a go myself.
Any advice would be appreciated!! :sign0085:

Hi Liddley,
23 flashes are a bit unusual, tend to think like Sparky that your LOP and possibly LOPT is shot. Couldn't track your set down to a known chassis from current files,
More info, perhaps with piccies - Chris

THanks guys,
I will take some pics of the inside of the tv if this will help, also would the serial number help?
Im not up on electronics so i will try my best to follow you, i like a challenge and a chance to learn somthing new. Im and installation electrician by trade, but 230v and 415v that i am use to installing is a far cry away from the inner workings of a tv. So ill do my best !

hi
if you d'nt no leave well alone might be saver that way
sorry dave
-
Hi Sparky -
You seem a bit 'Bah-Humbug' - perhaps it's the time of year. If so, after those ghosts appear, remember that the 'Crimble day Turkey man' of Norfolk, is now a bit expired - so Tiny Tim might be in trouble - again.
Wonder, if like the Daly-Lama, the new 'Turkey King' might just be discovered, as an egg, perhaps in Lowestoft.
Well, nothing else has, so far.
Snapping at the Parson's nose - Chris.

THanks for the concern guys, but in my experience if you dont have a go you Never learn. Whats the worst that can happen? I throw the sony in the skip !!

Hi
The worst that can happen is you end up dead!!
I wouldnt have thought sony CRT sets are for the beginner to be honest, they can be a pain in the ass for even an experienced engineer
Sorry to put a damper on it

Hi Liddley,
Realised with help of 'Highlandelectrix' that it's an FE2 so attach my file for a smile. It was usually Line tranny and Line output, but as Brian rightly opines, it's a pretty hideous and unforgiving set if it's feeling nasty - but I'm not yet totally defunct from FE2 retribution - I think Vestel, and take the tablets.
Merry Crimble - Chris.

Thanks I will have a look at that file.
Like I said Im a quallified installation electrician of 17 years and I obviously understand the respect you need for all things electric. Its not as if Im Mr D.i.Y trying his look. when I joind this forum I was just hoping that some one could point me in the right direction of the most common componets on the various p.c.b's that are the usual suspects if you like to fail. This set was given to me for free and if its knackered I will throw it in the skip.I would just be very annoyed if it was some simple fix that was the problem. It seems such a shame to skip such a lovely looking tv.

hi
if line transitor s/c make sre you fit genuine sony otherwise
will pop of very quick also they are expensive transistors
dave
good luck

Hi Liddley,
Looking at the set - back off - there's a heat sink, centre rear. Check transistor middle connection (collector) with chassis on any outer on a phono or Aerial input, and if it's Short circuit (like zero Ohms), chances are LOPT (Line transformer- that grey lump to the left with the wires) is also shot.
Generally, if you change both, it's the biz - don't complain though if you then have other probs - as it can then get a bit troublesome.
Gave 'em up early 2010 - starving since - Chris.
PS - Thanks Sparky - had just one where a BU' cheap substitute whatnot got hot and had to pay an almost 'Euras' subscripition for one that didn't - once only, but that was included in my FE2 stuff upload

THanks guys ill check that out. When you say expensive how much is expensive. And where would i buy such items??
Like i say, this sony was Given to me and it Does not worrent spending lots on it. If sony components are going to cost 50 60 quid its realy not worth it ??
-
hi
not worth spending much on it when working
you would be lucky to give it away or sell it

Hi Sparky,
Glad to note you're still dieting after all that fag consumption. Me - well, check weight daily, and now our local Turkey twizzler is gone - live in some hope of eventual 'Silicon Heaven'
Can't yet get fingers near keyboard - but with this new big screen-biz - Nifty, but getting awful greasy - Chris
