I'm New, So first off, Hi guys and Girls!
I picked up the above tv (LCD37761F1080P) yesterday and its not working...
I did a bit of digging through your forum (Awesome by the way!) for some info and it looks like my ground work was well placed...
the situation is this - it turns on, I get the blue standby light but nothing more, the light will dim/flash when the remote is used or the side control buttons but it will not power on completely. Having looked through the forums there are a couple of Acoustic solutions with the same issue is there (It appears its the power supply, which is what i ASSUMED and where i started).
My Expertise is Xbox' and PS3's, im pretty handy with a soldering iron and a multimeter/ohmmeter but im stumped as to what to do... do i replace the PSU or repair it, if its a repair job where do i start?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Nemesis,
No files here but have that 'Vestel' feeling. Site has heaps on most 17PWxxx supplies. Which is yours ?
All the best - Chris.
-
Thanks for the quick response Chris,
the Vestel feeling is about bang on, The number listed rings a bell from what i saw printed on the PSU Board.
I am at work at the moment but i will update with the board numbers/psu numbers when i get home. if there are any Capacitors that have failed can i replace with normal off the shelf items from maplin or would i be better ordering from a specific place? (I know they are rated and carry different ohmage's/voltages etc. i'm just unsure as to where the best place to order from is lol)
-
Hi,
Just give us that 17PW - we Quuqs will suggest the rest - possibly argue for months - Chris.
-
Right, in through the door and upto my eyeballs already!
The Power Supply module is 17PW20.1 - thats the one you need i think... the capacitors are all uniform and dont look bulged at all :dubbio:
As I said, I've done circuit work on xbox's and PS3's etc. but never a tv :dubbio:
Thanks again for your quick responses!
-
send me a photo of power supply, just mite av one.
-
Hi Nem,
Have a little info - attached - Chris
Would first check those 2 x 15nf's (Top left under the heat sink - they usually bulge a bit and go open circuit)
-
Thanks for all the info so far guys!
i haven't had anytime to do anything tonight but i will be opening the set tomorrow to get a picture of the supply unit and take a look at the suggested area.
Cheers!
Pete

Hi Pete,
Have a piccy - caps outlined (rather small though )- Chris.
-
Cheers Chris, thats wicked! Thats the same as mine i think!
I've attached a photo of the unit from inside the TV for every-one's viewing pleasure :sign0085:
I'm on PS3 Duty at the minute :yahoo: so i'll be about.
Thanks again!
-
is it me or the bad photo.looks like 2 or 3 bulged caps, to the right of power supply.
-
They all looked ok to me, I Will try and take a better picture, but you might be right so i'll check them again :13:
-
hi
your right the caps look a bit bulged we spotted

Hi guys!
Would some one mine high-lighting the caps i need to check? I know its a bit cheeky but i think i need some help as this is out of my normal area of expertise :sign0085:
I appreciate everyone's help.
Thank You! :13:

Hi Nem,
Generally with this P/S it's initially mains fuse failure and PFC troubles. You don't have this prob, so move on to those two 15nf caps and any round aluminium thingies with a bulgy top.
Quuq folks noticed - on a rather poor piccy - that you had at least three in that category - go solder - Chris
PS - a decent piccy, perhaps.
-
hi nem i think you can get a full reliability kit for this psu from ohm supplies and charles hyde online the kit even tells you the component locations so you cant really go wrong .dave
-
Hi D/J
I just love that sort'a confidence in our trade - bucks me no-end - Chris
Back to changing EY51's in projector tellies - worst thing was that oil - awful smelly, but cheap though these days, was only 2D per pint.
-
Ok, Hopefully these will help... Thanks again everyone
-
hey chris if i remember correctly that oil was corrosive too seen many a philips go south due to leaks .was talkin to our projectionist about the very same thing today funny enough .dave
-
Hi
Just put your finger on the top of the capacitors and and you will feel the bulging top and if i was you I would change the two blue caps that chris pointed out. I have also had the mains smoother going open circuit as well

Hi Nem,
Some of them caps looked bulgy when piccied overhead, but sideways with extra salad cream -well, not so sure.
As Brian says, the main (big black thing in top middle) capacitor can be a prob, can be dry jointed to the board, but it usually pops mains fuse and PFC section when O/C.
Give us a pic from above in decent light and without the salad cream - we're hungry and easily deflected from telly mending - Chris.
-
allways had problems with thease brown /gold caps. change them.
-
Thanks for your input so far Gents,
My 17PW20.1 Repair/Reliability kit turned up this morning so i'll replace my soldering iron tip when i get home, and get soldering and post some results.
Again, Thanks guys!
:c017:
-
good luck.
-
So...
the repair kit went in - now the Set's still the same... i think my next move is to try those brown/gold caps as suggested... any other ideas?
-
Im at the stage where its quicker to bite the bullet and change any PSU beginning with 17PW..I picked one up online for just over £24 and delivered within 4 days just before Xmas. I know its not repairing to component level but at least you can then try to repair the board at your leisure.
-
Having now changed the brown/gold caps aswell the TV is the same... The main black Capacitor (C819?) top is domed and flexes under pressure... do i try this next or would i better finding a replacement PSU? ive checked the board base and i cant find any shorts there :sign0085:
-
that sounds like the smoothing cap nem may be worth sourcing the psu however i have come a cropper before and resorted to obtaining a new psu to find out that the issue was on the main panel ?? have you been able to measure the voltages coming from the psu ?
-
well - i put this away and forgot about it - then the Mrs' spotted it hidden in the back of the wardrobe :s_laugh:
Have changed main smoothing cap - installed repair kit and changed some Cap's that weren't in the kit!
still sitting there with a nice BRIGHT BLUE LED !!!
no response from any side buttons - dont know if the led should flash on buttons being pressed but it does nothing - dont have a bloody remote either :(
-
hi
it could stuck on child lock but you need remote
