Title: Sharp CV2131H
Post by: The Listener on February 03, 2011,14:10:29
The set is old, but I don't watch a great deal of TV, so it has had comparatively little use and it is perfectly adequate for my needs, so if it is repairable.............
From switch-on the picture is reduced to a thin line across the screen. The sound is fine and eventually the picture flicks on and off, then is a little liney, then fine. The time taken to get a normal picture, from switch-on, has increased in the couple of weeks that it has been doing this and it now takes 20-30 minutes (I have not timed it, but know what part of what programmes have been unviewable).
Presumably one or more components are going west, but what? Any suggestions more than gratefully received. (As of now, I have not removed the cover to look for anything strikingly obvious).

Hi,

You have probably got cracked joints on the vertical output chip IC501, resolder this chip and you should be OK

Thanks for that.
I have just had a quick search and can't find IC501. The PCB label isn't easy to read but there appears to be IC801 (and IC1001 -something like 40-pin DIL). 801 is a 32-pin pacakage with ID something like - SHARP 1X0712CEN1, plus what is probably a batch number. That is left and rear of centre of the board when viewed from the front of the TV, if that helps ID it all.

IC 501 is roughly in the centre of the board, 7 pins in 1 line (IX0640) may have a different number on it, if it has been replaced, can't remember but maybe starting LA or TA. It is mounted on an L shaped aluminium heatsink

Spot-on - being mounted vertically on the sink fooled me.
I'll just get the iron............

I absolutely hate tempting fate, but at the moment I can't remember the picture being so clear - presumably there was one or more dry joints going back more than a while.

My sincere thanks - I just hope things last!!
