Title: Samsung 46" LCD LE46M87BD half dark picture
Post by: markie76 on July 12, 2011,09:58:10
Hi Guys,

Have been offered a Samsung LE46M87BD 46" LCD with a half dark picture.

Basically the unit seems to work ok but the left handside of the screen is darker than the right. It is not blank, still showing a picture with the correct colours but its noticeably darker than the right handside.

My first guess would be the CCFL tubes have gone or the inverter powering them or something in the picture processing circuitry???

But do these large LCD panels have split backlights and not a CCFL tube which runs the entire width?
Has anyone seen a similar issue> half dark screen?

I'm just trying to get an idea of the fault/complexity and whether this is a good deal or not taking into consideration cost of parts/time spent on a DIY repair.

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi Mark,

Never heard of LVDS or screen fault giving a dark LHS - guess it's either tubes or more likely one of the two inverters a bit duff, maybe even a P/S prob.

Don't have anything on your set, so just guessing  - send piccies - Chris.

The issue is with the board where the dark area is. There are some high capacity plastic caps that are faulty or sometime burnt.

You can either change the board or buy a 46" broken screen and swap your panel round.

I did test out these changing the TCON which did not solve my issue apart from the backlight board repair or complete change.

Hope this helps
