Hi, I have a philips 32" which needs retuning every time it's switched on. I'm sure I've read this one somewhere but can I find it??? Anyone point me the right way? I've done factory reset. Cheers, doug.

hi
if you look on philips web page you might find a phone
number for cust services but you might have to fit an
external freeview box
dave
-
Hi Dave, Yes I think an external box is probably the easiest way out! Philips!!! I 'ate 'em, Doug.
-
hi
we all do just been on tv comet to close
dave
-
Try this, switch to analogue or scart input and hold down Vol+ and Vol- until the set restarts then the set will do a complete retune. Has been know to cure many freeview ills but it's probably better to buy an external box as the chipset used in this chassis produces dire freeview pictures.
Philips, never been the same since the A10 disaster. :41:
Technical support useless unless you spoke German.

in digital mode enter 1,2,3,6,5,4
this is digital customer service mode
again 1,2,3,6,5,4
then you can initialize digital receiver part.
kind regards

Hi folks,
Had one in today, and Jeez it takes a while to do anything. Eventually, left to itself, it did the biz. Guess some folks are impatient and press buttons - I was, and did, initially - Philips always takes it's time, always did, give me common Vestel, everytime - Chris
-
Totally agree Chris. Whenever I tune a Philips I put a slice of toast in, make a cuppa & read the telegraph cover to cover. Doug
-
Hi Doug,
Note that Sparky suggests a Freeview box after your 'Telegraph and Toast' - he might be right as my set initially OK - 'forgets' some channels the next day - Thought Philips were OK after those last crap M/proc panel tube sets - not so, it seems, and not just a small (very costly) panel, but a total main board - Chris
-
hi
had one other day did a manual retune after doing auto scan with no
aerial in then did the manual set cust says still working ok after 2 days
have been informed when it does a auto scan it finds over 200 dtv channels
will not store
dave
-
Hi Dave, Did a manual scan. 105 channels instead of 212. Seems to be ok!!!! Have you tried this on yours Chris? Doug
-
Hi doug,
Did rescan at least 30 times - found like some computers it went into sulk mode and found/remembered only a few channels at some times.
Wonder if there's some PS problem with some caps, giving troubles - or maybe it's just Philips
Guess - just crap Philips and needs a DVB box - Chris
-
Chris, When I first got this fault I changed the psu from another set and it was still the same so I think this rules out caps in psu. So I guess it's just Philips. Doug

hi doug

check your email two files sent to you, both needed together on mem card
-
Thanks Astracat, Received files & will have a go later, Doug
-
this is defo a firmware issue there is a fix for it but being Philips even the core programming changes from set to set you can phone technical and if your lucky enough to get a technical minded person and not a peanut eating monkey they'll e mail you a link to the correct firmware update for the set .
-
you need the compair to do upgrade i believe also philips
are pulling out of tv market soon
-
Hi chris
Ive got 3 of this chassis doing the same thing, but it will remeber the channels on one transmitter(belmont) but loses a Mux an another(Waltham)
Im experimenting with a few different methods and I will keep you posted if I get anywhere

funnily never had to do a firmware update on a phil theres so many other faults on these sets I've always had a spare mainboard from one i've been forced to scrap for some other reason !
-
hi have you cured this problem yet.worst cases have had to fit a bandpass filter on aerial as said before done loads of them at wrk we are philips sevice agents dont forget to keep menu pressed on tv to get back to virgin mode after the update sent to you tv memory only holds 200 channels if it sees anymore it will dump original and try to fit them again
g/luck

Hi Astracat, Tried your info on 8gb card cos I didn't have a smaller one. Didn't work but I have ordered a couple of 32mb cards & will try again. Will keep you posted, Doug
-
Hi folks,
Had similar probs on old stuff, mainly PVRs - guess you're whistling for updates from above, some chance - Chris
-
Hi doug
I think you will find the new firmware will cure loss of teletext, it doesn't cure the memory problem.
I will get around to it soon and see if i can find something that works

Hi Brian,
Thought that automatically transmitted downloads should be the biz to update firmware - on trying to update troublesome sets with this facility on install menu it invariably comes up with Now't.
Wonder why ? - Chris
-
Hi Chris
The Firmware update for this set is done via a SD card in a PCMCIA adaptor. I don't think all firmware updates can be done automatically over the air, (I'm not sure about this one) They also rely on you having the set switched on(or in standby depending on make) on the day they do the OAD, so it is pretty random if the sets pick it up at all.
