Title: LG 37LH3000 Main Board Needed
Post by: fat controller on November 09, 2011,11:41:18
Hope I am posting this in the right place  :sign0144:

I have arrived here following a recommendation from a very helpful person on another forum, and hope that someone may be able to help or point me in the right direction.

I have an LG 37LH3000 which suffered a small amount of water ingress toward the left side (as you look at it from the front) - all would probably have been well if it had been left off, however someone who thought they knew better decided to switch it on without giving any opportunity for it to dry.

I have since dried it out in an outhouse with a boiler which was nice and warm for a couple of weeks, and have subsequently began looking to see if I can repair it.

It was clean water that got into it, and only a relatively small amount.  I can see where it has dribbled down the LVDS cable which has presumably led it onto the main board (cannot see any evidence, but it seems a safe bet).  The panel will come on, illuminate and then cycle through coloured screens, but there is no menus or ability to select inputs etc.  My TV has an AUO panel fitted (I can easily supply the panel model/part no if it is needed).

I ordered a main board online by way of the part number, which arrived, however I note that it has been taken from a 42LH3000, and that the barcode on the side suggests that it has been designed to drive an LG panel.   Given that there is likely to be a difference between the LG panel and the AUO panel, not to mention the size issue, I am reluctant to fit this panel just to knacker it.  I have contacted the vendor to ask the question, however having sold the board, apparently they are no longer interested as I have had no response at all.

So, I am in need of a main board,  part number EAX60686902(2), that is suitable to drive a 37" AUO panel.

Oh, and I have a main board for a 42LH3000 of the same part number that I will be selling (as far as I know it is working, but I have/can not test it).

Any, and all advice or suggestions gratefully received. :)

Hi
Alot of boards now are designed to run 37", 40" or 42" screens. So as long as the connections are the same I would certainly be giving it a go.
Just my opinion but hope it helps.

Thanks John :)

As much out of frustration as anything else, I decided to give it a shot - no smoke, nothing nasty, but it didn't work.

It did give different symptoms to the original board, in that the set came on to a black (albeit backlit) screen as opposed to the cycling through the colours as it did with its original board.

I didn't want to leave it on any more than a few seconds, just in case, as I could do to get at least some of my cash back for this board by selling on to someone else in need.

So, I am still in need of a suitable main board if anyone has one to sell?

Any (and all) other advice gratefully received.

normally, if the plug, the display resolution and the voltage (see panel datasheet) is the same, it should work no problem, despite the physical panel size being different.

I've successfully replaced panels in LCD monitors and TVs with different sizes and manufacturers. Most important part is the resolution.
If it's the same, it's usually not a problem. If the resolution is off (for TV's, 1366x768 vs. 1280x800 or 1280x720 for example), it doesn't work most of the time and you just get a multicolored pixel-mess or just a blackscreen.

edit: I've just looked up the specs on geizhals.at/de a.k.a. skinflint.co.uk. Both models are Full-HD (1920x1080) so it should work (in theory)

Did any of that water end up on the TCON board? (the one on the LCD panel, usually top center where the cable from the mainboard goes to)

Not as far as I know, and there are no track marks to suggest it has - the water entered toward the left side (when looking at it from the front) and has then ran down the vertical drop on the LVDS cable;  of course, I can't guarantee that the TCON board wasn't taken out when the main board failed.

Sadly, I am merely an amateur at this, and am doing this in a domestic situation, so don't have much in the way of test equipment.

I'm happy to plod away with this one as a bit of a pet project, as currently it only really owes me fifty beer tokens for the board purchased to date.

EDIT - Just for the sheer hell of it, I have just whacked the original main board back in - whereas originally it would switch on and then cycle through coloured screens, it now lets me see menus etc, although they are very messy.

I shall get some photos and post back.

OK, further to my last post - here is a photo (http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x7/fatcontroller_2007/IMAG0170.jpg) of the symptoms now, which is with its original board back in.

Just as a sanity check, I put the 'new' replacement board back in, and still only get a plain black backlit panel, so it would appear that its either not compatible, or a duffer.

I've whipped the cover off the T-CON board, and somewhat predictably, there is nothing to see.

Just to update this, I now have a working TV :)

Turned out to be corrosion on the LVDS cable following its soaking, and one contact on the ribbon cable had lifted and folded back on itself (my fat thumbs to thank for that one!).  A bit of patience, and a bit of control exercised over my thumbs, and the TV is now working beautifully.

A mention in despatches to in_focus, who not only recommended this forum to me, but has been extremely helpful with advice to nudge me in the right direction. :)

Thanks to you all :)
